Another wholly original sculpt from many years ago, one of my very first in fact. And yes, I WILL get around to posting more of my current work (there is method behind this madness;))! This one scales out to around 150mm.

Pretty crude in retrospect, but it does show that I had some promise back then. I'll likely resculpt this one as I like the overall idea and pose.

I dunno, you say pretty crude. By my reckoning it's pretty damn good for a first attempt. I can only wish that if I get around to trying a sculpt it's half as good as yours.

Cheers Mark. Most of us look over our older work, and think of what one could 'a/should 'a. The flaws really stick out with the passage of time, a fresh look, and improvement in technique and skills.;)

    Hello Mike:

Well from looking at your photos of this piper it is obvious that you are a
talented sculptor. And I enjoyed looking at this most interesting figure.
My guess from your text (and BTW, thanks for mentioning the
scale right from the get go) is that you're "over 21". . . — and the
old adage that we do get better as time goes by, or another
way to say it, we do indeed learn by doing — so I figure your
experience and skill level has moved forward as the time has passed.

I am not a sculptor, unfortunately, but as a model builder who has been
    enjoying this hobby for 46 years, I feel I am doing my best work right now;
    with improvement each year.

Eager to see more of your work, Mountain Mike in the hills of TENN/KENT.

Thanks to all for the input.

Carl, actually it isn't Findlater of the Gordon Highlanders. I was inspired as I remember from a photo of a group of soldiers cheering in such a fashion from the Boer or Sudan wars. This one is a Seaforth Highlander.

Thanks Rick. Actually I relocated from Dallas to the WESTERN TN/KY area (think Nashville), land of horse ranches and vast farms, and far removed from the mountains and coal mines etc. of EASTERN KY.;)

Should have paid more attention to the tartan Mike.:cautious:

Nah, the photos aren't too clear with that dark tartan. The white stripe could easily be mistaken for the Gordon yellow.;)

Looking at it again after all these years, the face does have that sort of "old Bill" look to it, doesn't it?
