WW2 uniform questions...

    Hey all,

Been a while since I've posted anything on PF, but real life such as a new addition to the family has taken up much of my time, a new addition at the age of 10.5 months... :)
However, I have been slowly collecting a few figures to paint for a diorama in 1/48 scale of Canadians in Italy '43. Yet I'm stuck on finding any sort of information on what type of fatigues they wore. From the black and white photos, their fatigue colors look the same, yet I cannot find what type of dye was used. Flames of War gaming suggests that they were khaki grey jacket, english brown trousers, khaki helmet and the rest goes on from there.

Does anyone have any suggestions as too what type I should go with. I prefer Vallejo Model Master, but if anyone has any suggestions of another brand name, then I can cross reference to find it.

    I appreciate it :)

    Thanks,

    Doug

I think Canada wore standard UK Battledress, so English uniform.

Yes, English Uniform would be the Vallejo colour best suited to representing Canadian Battle Dress. I would recommend you add some Grey Khaki to your English Uniform colour mix.

I take it then the mix would be to give a faded look?

    Thanks for the info

For a more faded look I go with Iraqi sand Doug, but any off white would suffice.

I know how you feel Doug.....I've got just eight weeks before 'Child, Small No.2' hits the beaches!

I can't comment on Canadian fatigues in Italy, but I do know that standard Canadian BD (as worn in Normandy) was darker and more green than UK BD.

I've found this is a good book by Histoire et Collections...

    Cheers,
    Jon.

    Thanks for the comments guys.
I am kind of stuck on what I should use for shading and the highlight. I currently use Vallejo English Uniform and was thinking that Chocolate Brown might be good for deep shadow, but not sure about the highlight. Anyone have any suggestions :)
