This is my first post. It's the Carl Reid sculpture by Frank Miniatures. I am a big fan of Carl's work. I think he is the best sculpter of Native Americans today. I have all his Native Americans even some of the older ones. However, I was slightly disappointed in this one. If it inspired by the Karl Bodmer painted, which I believe it is, Carl left off several details which is not indicative of his work. The painting shows a plume just forward of the turkey feathers; the turkey feathers are topped by horse hair tufts and two small feathers; and the figure wears a war flute and long necklesses around his neck. I have included these in my rendition but wish they had come with the scupture. Other than these omissions I found the sculpture excellent. The nealy 160 raven feathers were a pain to paint but look great and really show off the essence of the figure. The facial feathers are also excellent. I hope you like bust. Comments are welcome.

Nice work Mike look forward to seeing more.............I would have been tempted to put it on a pedestal base!? but maybe you are restricted by cabinet size? just a personal preference.

Courageous. Reid is a favorite of mine but Ive not picked that bust up because it seemed daunting ( then add in my laziness ).

Thanks for your comments. I prefer the type of base I used here for busts. I would use pedestal bases for full figures, although I don't do many of those anymore. The base used here was made especially for me by John Jefferies of Birch Tree Enterprises in Freeport, NY.
