    Hello
Since I don't have to much time for painting :/, I decided to present one of my older works - Northumbrian warrior from Latorre. Great sculpture and real pleasure to paint.
I painted this mini more than a year ago, and today I eventually managed to take pictures of acceptable quality. Comments are welcome as usual :). I'd also appreciate your opinion about backgound - which one looks better, black or white.

Nice work Simon. One of my favorite sculpts from Latorre. The darker background looks better for me at least. Keep 'em comin'!

    great work

Nice flesh tones , metals and the crimson. Was the shield pattern painted it looks extremely well done. You 54mm figure painters make me sick with the talent you have. Amazing you cant paint something so small so well.
The dark backgrounds are definitely the way to go.

oh man that is outstanding painting on a really cool figure. I like the dark background also. I hope you are able to find time to get back to painting soon.

Simon, great job on this classic figure - face and hair very realistic; muted, earthy colors for tunic and leggings; shield worn and dirty; shading and highlighting very controlled; groundwork muddy without being overdone - and very nice images.
The black background shows as a charcoal grey on my monitor, which works very well (better than a stark black, I think). A minor nitpick - there's a shadow of the spears in the third pic that is not visible in the first two, and the lower half seems darker, or perhaps differently lighted, as compared to the others. But all are better than I have done, so high marks for that!
The white background is fine, but not as dramatic as the black/grey, in my opinion.

Thank you very much for the nice comments, guys.
Grant - I'd been painting 28 mm and 35 mm miniatures for over 10 years, belive me, 54 mm models are quite big:).

I do appreciate your opinions about the background. And the winner is the black one, as I supposed. Taking pictures with this background is a bit harder for me, as it demands more light - I take pictures using just one lamp and holding camera in my hand (without any stand), so the longer exposure time, the bigger chance of blury picture .... I guess I'l have to buy a stand :)

    Great work!
An impression with the metal color is very wonderful.
I also liked the tone of the surcoat.
I think you're painting very politely.
Indeed I think a professional work.
    I congratulate completion.
