Thought I would start this thread as I found the first figure that I ever painted (not including the figures that I used to do for military dioramas).

My 1st serious figure kit was this Verlinden 120mm Grenadier, flesh painted in oils (to try some shading that I learnt from a Verlinden book) and the uniform and accessories in tamiya acrylics and dry brushed with Humbrols.

It's interesting to see how you progress through the years!!!

I painted this Chas Stadden SGT Royal Marines about 25 years ago. I don't think that I've developed that much.
    Good thread Ben.

    Nice thread!

Well, my very first character was this 90mm Sieland-Cossack.

As you can see, I had little idea at that time, because I've ordered the thing and then just started painting.

Of light and shadow, I had ever heard something, but how to do that ... no idea.

Also from the paint thinner I did not know much, as we see, on the jacket and the face is rather more a crust formed.

    The eyes - well ...

The hat the accessories I have yet achieved it really well (for those conditions then!)

The base - just a first attempt ...

But you know what I depended on this debut with a small to downright sentimental denominates devotion.

He has a place of honor and will also keep him ...

    My first serious figure

This French Foreign Legion Captain in Chad 1969 was from a firm called Chota Sahib who produced loads of great 54mm figures in metal. I did this in 1987 when I was a very young 19 years old. i don't think there is any way I can do a 54mm figure now.

    Found em!

    Great thread!

So I went digging about and found a handfull of old figures...

the Man-at-Arms is my first figure after art college so about 1984?? and the other is the very first Space Marine! again I think 1984/85? but I can't find it in any of the old lists :(

Both done with Humbrol ( when it would brush paint properly ;) ) enamels..

I don't have the first figures I ever did - Tamiya and Airfix - but I do have the first few from when I started to get serious about it. I'm not sure which one is the oldest but it might be a Phoenix two-figure vignette of a Viking and a monk, some or all of it was painted when I was 17 (I think I touched it up a bit in my 20s).

Approximately 1973/74 - Tamiya 1/35th scale German Infantry Set.

I fondly remember building and painting them all in one afternoon and then taking them out into my back yard and shooting them with my air rifle.

Actually this is also the same fate that waited for the second and third figure kits I did, Tamiya German Officers set and Tamiya German Panzer Grenadiers.

My first real figure kit was a 120mm Verlinden German General which I built in the early 1990's. It's in pieces now in a box along with at least a dozen other figures that never quite made it.

mine was Airfix's King Richard in the mid 70's..............long gone the same way as Tony's first efforts (air rifles can be so much fun)

My first adult attempt was Airfix's Anne Boylen which is at the back of the cabinet

This was my first non-diorama figure, painted when I was 16 or so. From Verlinden, my hero.
