    Hello All,
What does everyone use for a palette for acrylics? I kinda use whatever - soda bottle caps mainly, these tend to be a bit wasteful paint-wise. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I know some people use a wet palette, I use an artist palette sometimes or the lid from the blister pack that 30mm wargame minis come in.

Just google wet palette to get an explanation on how to build one. It keeps the paint wet longer. I tend to not like it because i add water and future or windex to my paints and the wet palette tends to soak this up.

    Hope that helps.

Russ, I mix colour (and thin the paint, since I use tube acrylics mostly) on glazed ceramic tiles or Perspex, then transfer the paint to a homemade stay-wet palette.

After years of painting directly from a plastic palette and having to work against the paint drying out constantly I can't recommend a wet palette enough.

I use a wet palette some times but most of the time I use a couple of these:

Mine are older and were purchased from W&N back when they sold those kind of things. the thing I like about them is you can lay out 6 shades of a color or flesh tone. I mix paint in the small round well and then work with the thinned version in the rectangular sloped well. If I am not done painting but am done for the night I Place the palette in a resealable container that I suck most of the air out of along with a piece of paper towel that is moistened.

I use lids off icecream, or for those little mixes, tablet packets.. Then they can be sealed with tape, to keep everything fresh.

I use chewing gum packaging a lot.

If I want to save a(n undocumented) mixture, I stick packing tape over it so it doesn't dry out.

(see my thread called 'low cost palette').

    Cheers,
    Adrian
