An exquisite piece. I especially like the shield and lion pelt. If you used oils I would love to know your recipe for the lion fur.

Fantastic! Perfect! From top to toe! (and that cut on the toe!!!) Unlike my friend Mitsutaka above, i don't think it's a perfect masterpiece, I KNOW it is!

    Robert,
I have always admired this figure, but anything smaller than 90mm is too small for me.
Your rendition is simply beautiful! Your painting and attention to detail is exceptional.

    Hi friends,
Janne, Carl, Stefano, Marc, John, Mitsutaka, sirhogr, Dom, Marcel and Rocky,
much appreciate your interest in my work and thanks for your encouragement:D it is nice to hear this compliments from big masters, many thanks again.
The sculpt of this figure is exceptional and couldn´t resist to have it under the brush. Biggest problem was to choose motiv on the shield, because the figure is more romantic than historic, so I decided to let be inspired by some ancient roman mozaics and found the sea motives to be most interesting, therefore the shield is in blue.
Lionskin, I had some trouble with catching the right tone of the lionfur, but at the end it came out nicely. I have added some more fur in the area of lion´s head and leggs (like Hardy Tempest do, with applying pure naples yellow directly on the undercoat and pulling it out with a needle to make fur and let it dry and than undercoat again before painting process) to make it more worn and more detailed.

    The lionskin mix (oil paints):
basecoat: gld ochre + raw sienna + mars orange + a bit of Van Dyck´s brown
1 shadow: more Van Dyck´s brown into basecoat
deep shadows: wash with sepia and lamp black
light: naples yellow + base mix (50%/50%)
    highlight: pure naples yellow

hope it would help. If not, some areas are worth to repeat the proces of wash technique and than highlighting again to look realistic. Every layer should be completely dry befor apllying another layer.

    take care guys,
    R.L.
