Looks fantastic!! One thing though: I'm by no means an expert (or even very knowledgeable) but I dont think I've ever seen the hooded, lace-up garment he's wearing. Is that a poncho? I assume the bust is sculpted after a reference photo, and is probably accurate, but I'm curious to hear from someone "in the know" before I invest in this one.

I thought the same thing too. Then again it's a subject I know very little about. Either way it's a superb piece of sculpture. ~Gary

It's a pullover rain jacket. I had one just like it and I remember we had 2 types. One was an issue rain suit with a top and bottom. They were a sort of plastic/rubber material. I didn't like them. They were uncomfortable and I could never keep the rain from going down the back of my neck. They had velcro fasteners that would create cuts if they rubbed you wrong. I got a hold of the type on the bust. I believe they were Navy issue and waterproof canvas. I liked mine a lot becasue it kept you a bit drier and was more comfortable. I also had one when I got back to the states and would wear it under my flak jacket to keep warm sometimes. It really cut out the wind. On the other hand there were many times we didn't wear any type of rain suit because it was just to hot and nothing could keep out the torrential rains when they really got going. You just got wet and stayed wet. This is a nice bust as are all of Young Miniatures. This one reminds me of me 40 years ago. The rain jacket and I carried a radio just like the one on the bust and had Mike written above the breast pocket of the flak jacket. The fit of the helmet cover looks the same except I didn't have the bug juice bottle in the band. Brings back memories. Check out David Douglas Duncans "War Without Hero's" or any book about Khe Sahn or Hue City for more references.

I'm on board, this is one fantastic sculpt! Is it just me, or does anyone else get a vibe that this piece favors Martin Sheen from Apocalypse Now, or Charlie Sheen from Platoon just a tad? At any rate, well done Young!

The Jarhead is wearing the early rain parka

This Jarhead is sporting the early rain parka, it was later replaced with a two piece rain suit than replaced with the later issued rain poncho.

Excellent bust Young. I'll certainly be getting one of these bad boys.
