    Hi guys,

Here are the first WIP pics of painting my bust of Sir John Monash, which I'll now add to my Vbench.

I've base coated the figure with Vallejo acrylics. I'll probably use oils on the skin tones and the leather. No highlighting or shading done yet.

    Hope you like.:)

Thanks Dan, Marc, Tim, Glenn and Andy,

It's quite a challenge to paint something I sculpted myself; it's a new experience for me.

    Hi Tony,

Wow! Lots of progress since I last the bust in person a few weeks ago.

It bears a real resemblance to Monash himself, I can't wait to see the final result.

    Take care mate,

    Chas

Hey Tony, he's looking great. It's good to see how you paint a figure (or at least how you start it).

Im just curious, are you using medium fleshtone?

    Tony,

you have put great effort into sculpting the bust, I'm sure you'll do the same painting it, must be fun to paint your own bust (I'm a little jealous here :)) looking forward to see the result!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.:):):)

I've continued base coating tonight, and laid in the shape of the pupils.

For those of you interested in the colours I'm using, the tunic and cap are Khaki, the shirt and tie are US Tan Earth, all the red bits are Scarlet, the leather is Leather Brown and the flesh is Medium Flesh (all Vallejo acrylic). I've used both Brass and Bronze on the metallic bits and Black on the cap brim.

Still no shading or highlighting yet; that's next.;)

    Keith, Steve & Dan,

Thanks fellas, I really appreciate your comments.:)

Yes Steve, this is the poly clay version I started about 3 weeks ago. I have spent rather a lot of time on him lately:eek:

Now that the base coating is complete, the fun really begins - shading and highlighting. I'll start on the face tonight.

    Shading

    Hi guys,

Work done on shading tonight, mostly mixing shadow tones and laying them in. It's still rather messy and there is no blending done yet.

I've also added some basic highlights on the face, but I'll go over them again later when I start blending and adding the upper highlights.

    Hope you like.:)
