Hi Folks
Started on this a few days ago, fell in love with this kit as soon as I saw it and just put everything else on hold once it dropped through my letter box. Soldiers 54mm Roman Aquifer 2nd-3rd cent AD sculpted by the very talented A. Laruccia.
The casting on this kit is just awesome and I found it difficult to locate any mould lines to clean up, the detail is outstanding.
The head is near completion and I am quite pleased with the progress on this so far, I have a full day today spending time on the main torso so I will be posting some SBS on this on my web site in the next few days. He is going to be standing in the snow so tried to give a very cold feel to the skin tones.
All painted in oils over humbrols. Posted some enlarged pics at the bottom of the page.

Excellent start Tommi,
I don't like that highlight in the eyes. At this scale it looks at my opinion often as if the figure have a cataract in the eye.

I almost can´t wait to see what you do with that C.3rd officer now.

Painting human faces to look cold is a real challenge.
Some parts go pale and almost cyanotic, whilst with a little exertion other parts become quite red - cheeks, noses, edges of ear lobes.
Also, Northern European and Meditteranean complexions react quite differently.
I would really appreciate it if there was a thread somewhere on the subject with some good images...

Looking forward to seeing the sbs on the rest of this one.

Marc, I guess this is a bit debatable about the eyes some like it and some don’t, maybe one day I will not put in the highlights once I get older and unable to see as well.

Roc, I can’t take a decent picture at the best of times.

Guy, you will not be disappointed.

Spike, the new Solders figure is on route to me now.

Periklis, I started with a straight flesh tint mixed with burn sienna as the base then shaded with small amounts of sepia, Venetian red, black, highlights were base plus Naples yellow plus base and white.

I agree with you. And for myself: i really like to paint eyes like you did tommi, but without the catchlight.

Hi Tommi had not seen this figure before today, but what a cracker how did I miss it.I like what you have done so far ,but I think I would cool down the skin tone a touch.

I dont think its the paint job its the colour balance and bad lighting, I will try and take some better photos outside in the natural daylight.

Hi Tommi I had the same problems myself. I'm just getting used to my camera after a year! Look forward to seeing the pictures. I think I might have a go at this figure myself.

It would be nice to be able to get the same colour balance and contrast on the photos as seen by the human eye, everything just looks so different.

It is a loverly figure to paint and I have now ended up with two of them as Marco from Bestsoldiers sent me one and the other was bought as a present for me for fathers day, I will probably sell the other one.
