    hi guys,

I hope I am not frustrating you with all these posts   but I managed to arrange a bit my photo ''shooting'' place and I tried to do two bulbs one on opposite side and tried to play a bit with the light :):)

Now tell me if they are good pls?? or not cause I am still an amateur in this hobby and am trying to improve ;););)

Last but not least any comments or critique to do the figure better will be very appreciated.

Thanks and above all Happy New Year :).

    Regards,

    Samwel Vella

    In fact we are all amateures Sam. Here is someone who quote as;
Every artist was a amateur first...

Now, the pics looks very good, as the figure does.
    Keep painting and inform us.

    Yr figure looks promising

    Hi Sam,
Nice looking figure. Congrats on the painting so far. One comment - I presume this figure represents an aide to Marshal Soult. I have several references to this costume - the yellow in my refs is deeper (canary yellow?). Perhaps you can add a touch of cadmium yellow or even yellow ochre.

    Best rgds,

    Victor

Sam, definately better pics. Some good progress too. Was just wondering if the gold embroidery is finished or not. If it is, we need to talk :):)

Do not waste time trying to get better images ... keep those brushes wet matey!

Yellow is nice, would add some deeper shadows to get less a duotone scheme ... try to add violet as a complimentary ...

Hi Sam, and Happy New Year!
My feeling is rather great when looking at your work : clean job. The only thing I was wondring is: which colour is the jacket of this fellow? Is it an undercoat, but besides,( I think the guy was an ADC, wasn't he?) is it a green or a yellow? I find the combination of this greeny yellow /or yellowish green with pale blue rather weird, even in napoleonic times...

    Sam,
Very nice work so far, I like your clean style. To follow Victor's question on the Habit color, what is your reference for this piece? (Victor I am interested in yours as well) Knotel shows an Indian yellow, the Le Cimier Plates by Conrad are a definite brown and Bouquoy shows a tanish color, the same as both Bouquoy and Knotel show for ADCs to Murat and Bernadotte. This shade is generally translated as doe's belly. I have some correspondence with Col Elting (1994) on the references for Brun de Villeret and he had two other sources one showing a brown habit and one more yellow like Knotel. With several conflicting sources I an always interested in what reference material one uses when painting a figure like this. I used the Le Cimier plate as my main reference when I did a Historex conversion of Brun primarily because I liked that color combination better than the more yellow habit.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for the comments,

As for information I took the colours that were in the boxart so I don't know if I am historically correct or not

Henri what do you mean by:
which colour is the jacket of this fellow? Is it an undercoat????

Ivan here are some pics with some deep shadows added and yes I included violet in the base mix actually and this is the first yellow I made that included violet with it and I am quite happy with it. THANKS :):)

Stephen here are the pics with the embroidery done with your explanation and hint you gave me the last time we spoke on telephone :)

Marc thanks for your comments. They are so encouraging :)

Hrmmmmmmmm......looks good you little puppy

I presume that if you were historically incorrect re the colours, your mentor & tuitor & our Nappie buff & something else Stephen  would have jumped on you by now, what do you think ?

Now keep your hands steady on them brushes & keep away from "those" gardens :D :D :D

    Ray ;)
