I managed to get something done again :)
It's the bust of George A. Custer by Amati.
I just need to do another coat of clear flat to knock down the shine on the scarf and to do a better copy of the guidon. This one is just a test shot for size and such.
As always, I appreciate any and all constructive criticism. That's what helped me improve the hair on this guy :)

Looking really good Craig. the eyes are a bit "blue" in the photos, but could just be the shots.

    Craig,
I like what you done. But i think you must "tune down" the eyes. This kind off blue eyes are only availble with contact lenses. :)
They didn't know what it whas in those days:):)
But all in all you have done a great job.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the pointer. I guess I've looked at them so long now I really didn't notice just how blue they are.
Back to the bench for him. I have just a little bit of time to fix them as he's going to the D.C. show this weekend.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the nice comments. I'ce tried toning down the blue of the eyes by adding a very pale blue color to the bottom half of the eye. I think it helped.
Yea, Custer was not a nice guy when it came to the Indians but I think his treatment was pretty much the common method used back then.
When I started this piece I pulled out an old book I had on Custer that I hadn't read in a long time. It's "Son of the Morning star" by Evan S. Connell.
It's a very good book with a lot of information on Custer.

Hi Jacek :) Nice to hear from you again. How're you doing? I hope all is well with you. I'll be taking your Skalski bust with me to the show this weekend. I got a bronze for him at the big MFCA show last May. I'll let you know if he's their favorite of my pieces again :)
