2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles (British Columbia Regiment)
Single figure in 120mm or 1/15th scale
Somewhat based on the same illustration. This figure was intended originally as a fourth for the vignette below, but was removed at the request of the collector that commissioned the piece. I've now added maple leaf collar insignia, "CANADA" insignia on the outer part of the epaulette, and 3rd Canadian Division insignia on the upper arms of the M1902 tunic. I also resculpted the back and did new folds on both sides. After taking the pictures I also cleaned up the white residue on the helmet, chin strap and collar. It's amazing how photos show you things your eyes don't see!
Sculptor: same as always! The head, helmet, boots and shovel is from David Parkins.
Uniform markings are for the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division, 1918.

Again, great figure with nice animation.
It's very hard to capture the "feel of movement"
in this type of poses.

The only thing I would like to point out is the
length of right forearm. It's too long.

Taesung and Pete - Many thanks! Taesung, I think I measured everything correctly, and checked it after assembly, but you may be right. I think it's more likely that I put the notch of the inner elbow in slightly the wrong place - at least that's what I see in the photos. Darn it!

Measuring the length of arms can be quite tricky
especially when the arms are bent at the elbow
or the shoulders are in rotating motion...

Bill - Many thanks! This figure was intended to be # 4 in the Tommies vignette. Not sure why I wanted to do four figures vs. three. Can't remember. The collector who commissioned Tommies asked me to remove this one because he did nothing for the scene - which is true! In the original illustration there are a total of six British soldiers in view - some in fore ground & some in back ground. The "shoveller" is off to the left of the illustration and behind the left Tommy but still in the fore ground.

When I removed him, I was going to just remove the head and throw him away and Roger Newsome stopped me. He said, "Why not finish him?" So I did. And it dawned on both of us at some point that no one had done a figure of a soldier from the Great War digging. One of the things the PBI did a lot of, of course.

I opened up the package with this figure in it and checked the lengths of both arm segments - upper and lower. They're right on and the inner elbow of both are in the right place. So the photos must be misleading. I carved the elbow crook to make it a bit more prominent. Don't worry Roger, I re-packed everything and it is headed your way this morning.
