New Photos of the Three Tommies

As most of you know, my favorite collaborating painter and good friend is Roger Newsome. I think his mellow shading and subtle blending is about the best I've ever seen, plus he makes some great color selections. When I received this vignette back from him in the mail, even though it was badly damaged by the Post Offices of one or both countries, I thought it was the best thing he'd ever done with me. With some help from my wife, a little glue and putty, the vignette was reassembled and Pam painted the new bits blending them to fit Roger's original colors very well. As a result of this, I'm pleased to say I've talked her into trying a whole figure.

Anyways, some photos in the beautiful Nebraska September sunshine...hope you like them.

This is a fantastic vignette. I've seen several photos of just such a scene. The composition and unform details are absolutely spot on.

Tony - many thanks for your kind words! This is a one-off commission done for a collector, Martin Fine of NYC. Marty came up with the idea. It is from an illustration in John Ellis' book "Eye Deep in Hell".

I have just returned from a trip to Belgium when I visited the Flanders Field museum in Ypres and the Passchendaele museum nearby, your piece conveys beautifully the appalling conditions encountered by British and Commonwealth troops at Passchendaele which took place 90 years ago this year,
