Hi,

in your valued opinion what would be the best way of making a piece of a 12th century castle wall with a wooden door.

Buy them from Seil models. Then you have alot more time for painting the figure.

I just went thru Seil models and they don't have nothing that fits my project.

I need to build a section of the wall with a door, where I'll have 4/5 moors on the inside trying to pull a knight that's stuck in the door (making unable to close the door), while on the outside there's 4/5 portuguese soldiers that are trying to save their knight and force their way into the city (Lisbon).

This how i should do it.
From plasticcard made a mold upon the size of your wall. The thickness is the hight of the mold.
Fill it with plaster of paris. After dry you can carv with a nail the grove's of the stones. With a sandpaper you can make some structur in it.
The wooden door it can be made of plasticcard and carving the woodgrains.
You can also make the door from woodfineer. They are available in 2mm x 50 cm. Cut the desired lengt and glue them together.
The hinges can be made of leadfoil.
This is my aproge of this one, and it can be done.

of the two sets the one that come closer to what I want is the second one, althought the door has to be wider (5 to 6 men wide) and inwards there has to be a small 'tunnel' on which a house is built. I'll try to take a picture of one of the doorsways still remaining in isbon to show you what I mean.

Here's a pic of one of the doors (present day) seen from the inside just to give you the 'tunnel' idea with the house on top of it.

I don't intend to make the tunnel zone so deep but wider as I mentioned earlier.

Here is a castle section I built last year:

I made the front section using foam board cut to shape of gate, then covered with a "mortar" layer of MagiSculpt, which I then etch with a sculpting tool into stone sections. The portcullis was made from basswood, which is quite easy to work with. I use pieces of business card cut to size of literal stones and bricks to give the wall a realism (glued over the wall in spots). I then finish this with paint mixed with very, very fine sand.

Here is a shot from the approach, through the main gate, looking at the door to the inner bailey. Again, the inner bailey door is made from basswood. To frame the door I use thin rods covered with MagiSculpt, and over the door, for the curved sections, I use thinly rolled and formed sections of putty:

Finally, here is a smallish door I made to frame Romeo's white templar. Again, made from basswood (I actually cut the "planks" individually and glue them back together to give the door boards a realistic feel). I used MagiSculpt to make the arches and stonework surrounding the door:

Yes, I think plaster could work just fine, if you thinned it a bit. The magisculpt was simply to give some texture and to use for shaping certain wall pieces, but I think plaster could work just fine.
