If you have the time, try and track down the following book. It is an absolute gem on the Husaria. It is147pgs of both Polish and English text covering the history of this cavalry formation, their equipment and a separate section on their Hetmani (Grand Commanders). Almost every page contains sharp, clear and colour photos of museum quality examples of weapons and equipment.

    hello,
you could check the Zagloba Tavern forum on yahoo - frequented by the Osprey author Richard Brzezinski (at least used to), and Radek Sikora who is Polish (native) specialist on the subject of the Polish winged Hussars (author of at least 3 books on this matter).
But exactly what are you looking for, Roc?
By the way the illustration given above is quite nice albeit also equally anachronistic an thus misleading - mail with 1640s armour and 1680s (at least) wings, also the Polish sabre depicted here does not haveproper scabard ending, and the harness is incorrect as far as I know or have seen.
The coat - could be both zupan or kontusz is wrong as well, does not have so called Polish cuffs...
Check wikipedia for the winged hussars - they have a bit of images et al/

Hello Dario, thanks for checking in, I always appreciate your input.
As you might have noticed, my knowledge of the Polish winged Hussars is quite limited, but my admiration and respect for this great cavalry that saved Christian Europe is enormous.
I'm trying to learn as much as possible before starting the step by step.
I’m particularly interested in the banners carried by the Hussars in the battle for Vienna.

I finally got my hands on the beautifully sculpted 90mm. mounted Polish Winged Hussar , thanks to Scott one of our fellow members, I intend to paint it as soon as I finish General Kato.

    Cheers
    Roc. :)

    hello Rocco,
I hope I can be of some help
the question of banners is notab easy one although there seems to be more info - from painitngs etc - on those of the Vienna period than from precedeeing period the 1648-68 period (all the Cossack Wars , Swedish deluge and Muscovite-Russian Wars).
The banners for the hussars choragwie (banners or companies) seemed to have been fairly simple - mostly with a form of a knigtly cross, carried on 3,5 meters staff - shorter than hussar lance.
sand me an email and I will see what I have
