    Hi Guys

I am looking at creating a bust of a soldier from the English Civil war, and I am looking for some very good reference for helmets and armour of the new model army, I have one or two pictures of an original buff coat and three of the osprey books, does anybody out there on the panet, have any web reference or even information on exhibitions or displays at museums in the UK

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

Dave, have a look Here The Sealed Knot, besides loads of re-enactors there's loads of links to museums etc. Hopefully you should find what you are looking for.

    Good Luck,

    Roger.

    Hi Roger

I was hoping someone was gonna come back with that site, I had a total memory lapse and couldn’t remember the name of it, after I lost the link.

    So, thanks very much

Dave, where possible work from ACTUAL relics. If you work from photos or an actual reproduction item keep in mind it is just that, a reproduction that may differ ever so slightly from the real thing.~Gary

Good advice Gary, there's no substitute than actually seeing the real thing.

    Hi Gary

Thats what I was mainly wanting to work from, thats why I would like to know more about museum and stately homes collections of the period, you would have thought it would be easy, considering I am in England... :)

The website given earlier in the post seems to have a few good links of not just re-enactors I can follow from, but I am always after more if I can get it, you can never have enough reference....

Dave, V&A as well as MoL have fantastic collections of ECW armor, arms and artefacts.

Dave, Also check out site from the bigger auction houses. typically they'll have online catalogs that sometimes have not only nice phots of the items being auctioned but some background text as well.~Gary
