Awesome scuplt. The Renaissance is one of my favorite historical periods. Luca, you've done an amazing job capturing Dante! On my wish list for sure!!

Thanks Roy, the base too has his own history..., the original was made by plasticard, with putty decorations and to accelerate curing I placed it (and forgot...) under a bulb lamp..., fortunately I saved an almost finished resin copy before but it was not so funny...

By the way, for those who are interested Matt from El Greco Miniatures will bring some copies of that bust to the EMMS show (23 Apr.), as well as Uwe Kuester from Offizin-Honovere (a german store) will bring it to the next Ingolstadt show (28-30 Apr.).
The copies for Chuck (Red Lancers), Fabrizio (La Meridiana Miniatures) and Marco Ganghini (Best Soldiers) are on the way.
Kiko (Carmina Hobby) already has some copies availables for the Torrent show (Valencia - Spain, 21, 22 and 23 Apr.).

I have to admit that Jean Paul's version is very well painted. The reds are a standout. But there is something very appealing to me about your marble version. It turned out fantastic! The statue is convincing, and the marble on the pedistal is outsatnding. A refreshing approach, and a great way to emphisize the clasical feel of this piece.

Hi Jay, thanks. After seeing Jean Paul's and other people works using oils, I'm really tempted to try them. I do not paint so much (only a few pieces until now) but for what I see acrilics blending is a great pain.
The main problem with the white marble is the finish coat I used to simulate its translucent effect. The used mediums creates a coat which makes almost impossible to get a decent picture, the only option is the contrast balance with Photoshop, but that way the red marble of the column gets wrong.

John, to be honest... I dont know what kind of book it could be. I get charmed by a picture of a statue (I think from the Uffizi museum in Firenze), and I simply used it as source for the pose. I think it's a kind of topical, there are a lot of Dante(s) holding a book and/or a lyre. Here the picture.

OH....I see why you were "charmed" by the statue, Luca! I think if I were there in person, the museum staff would be "moving me along" after about 15 minutes. Beautiful sculpts and I agree with the others - I like it painted both ways. Doing it in 'marble' is a very innovative approach. Good luck and I hope you sell lots of them!!

Ha, ha! :lol:, yeah I hear you, it's a sort of trance, isn't ? The same for me, it's a kind of hypnosis, I think it's the right side of the brain which prevail over the other. I found the link from which the picture was borrowed:

look under the half of page, there are also the sculpt of Leon Battista Alberti, Giovanni Boccaccio, Dante, Petrarca and the great Macchiavelli.
But about "charming" take a look at "L'Angelo di Monteverde", I cant open that page without getting hypnotized. It's a funerary sculpt, from the cemetery of Genova. The author was Giulio Monteverde, to get an idea of his work, look at that young (Cristoforo) Colombo, I think the statue is preserved in an American museum.

Luca - There just is no other possible explanation for the beauty of those Monteverde sculptures - angels came down and sat for the sculptors.

The female figure sitting on the wall and leaning forward with the huge fall of hair -"staglieno DSF0030.jpg" - - That takes my breath away.

So I just had a long nice read.

Well, I can say that I had lot of pleasure to paint this bust.
The sculpt is lots better than the Body Paint.

But I regret that I dont know how to do marbble :angry:

I'll try soon, but not sure of the result :lol:
