    Hi Paul,

The face looks good to me. Are you working in oils or acrylics?

Concerning the posting of photos. You could try installing "Photobucket" on your PC, an image hosting program which you can download for free from the net. With this program you can generate HTLM codes for the uploaded photos after which you can copy them in your posts on the Planet.

    Here's the link: http://photobucket.com/

You could also use KitPic but I'm not familiar with that program.

    Johan ;)

It looks like you're going for a kakhi uniform like the M42 jumpsuit issued early on to Airborne units. This would not be proper for the uniform depicted. It really needs to be olive drab. This figure's uniform is the M43 style that was issued to the 101st in time for Market Garden.

    Hi John

I was wondering about colours, I have the D-Day Paratroopers by Histoire&Collections and some of the pics( uniforms ) are Khaki and some are more olive colour.

I was going to do a colour that was in between the two. I normally do modern figures( My first ww2 U.S figure )

I have just started painting the uniform so any help or comments would be great.

    Thanks Paul.

Here are two good examples of the the uniform jackets worn by American airborne forces during WWII. The first is the M42 worn by 101st during Normandy (although this one is not modified with reinforcements as worn during the invasion). The second is the M43, worn by the 101st during Market Garden. The second one is the uniform your figure is wearing. These are similar images taken under similar conditions. Hope this helps.

    Hi John

A silly question I know buy just want to make sure. Would the pants be the same colour as the jacket or would there be a mixture.

On the S&T box the colour looks more khaki then olive drab and the box says Market Garden, have they got this wrong..Just asking as I want to get the uniform right.

    Thanks Paul.

    Paul,
First, I need to apologize for deleting my first post. I just thought it wouldn't be go over well with this community. The M43 uniform, as depicted in this figure, is definitely not a khaki or brownish color as may be associated with the M42 (Normandy) uniform. John is absolutely correct - the M43 is a GREENISH olive green uniform. I've seen several such original uniforms and they are this color and not khaki at all.
Now keep in mind that uniform items were produced by many manufacturers who each formulated their own shade of olive drab (OD) green. It would not be uncommon to find troopers wearing a blouse and trousers of different shades of OD green from different manufacturers. A very good source is the miniseries "Band of Brothers," particularly episodes 4 and 5. Note that the troopers' uniforms in these episodes appeared to be of different shades of OD green.
I'm currently painting S&T's 1/35 BAR gunner, who's also wearing the M43's. Now I'm an oils kind of guy (no, I am NOT falling to the Dark Side!!! :D ), so I'll offer my undercoat formulas (in Vallejo's). If you need my oil mixes, I'll post them later since I'm currently writing a review of this piece that'll include my oils formulas. Okay, here they are:

JACKET: 2 parts green gray + 3 parts olive gray.
TROUSERS: 2 parts green gray + 2 parts Russian uniform.

These mixes offer slightly different variations of the apparently same OD green color, which was extremely common in the M43 uniform. If you need the perfect airborne online reference, then I invite you to visit Trigger Time - www.101airborneww2.com You'll find Screaming Eagles historians, re-enactors and best of all veterans quite active there.

P.S - I saw the original box-art piece at SCAHMS last year and it was definitely not khaki or brown, but green. It also came extremely close to winning the best WW2 figure at SCAHMS last year (or so I heard from the person who awarded this award ;) ).

    Thanks Pete

Thanks for the info and colours. Funny you talk about Band of Brothers because I have been watching that to try and get the colours right and yes those colour uniforms are more green. I will try your mix of colours and see how it looks.

The other funny thing is I have just order that very same S&T 1/35 figure about a week ago.

So I look forward to your review on painting this figure.

Thanks for the internet sites as well.

I would love to get your oil mixes for the uniform. My mother in law gave me the S& Tmarket garden Airborne trooper for Christmas so will be painting him soon.

    Paul,
Be careful. Do not use "Band of Brothers" as a color guide. Filming was done using several color filters, such as in "Saving Private Ryan", so as to give a more vintage "documentary" feel to the footage. I read that almost all color was washed due to these filters during shooting.

Pete, If you're offering color suggestions/painting advice why would it not go over well here? That is unless the remarks in your where meant to do something other than provide information relevant to his project. Just curious.~Gary
