Thanks to all those who replied to my previous thread requesting information regarding this regiment. I have now finished the first in what could well become a series of 'Riflemen from the Peninsular to the Boer War'. This figure represents my wife's great-grandfather as he would have been in 1871, stationed at Linen Hall Barracks in Dublin, where her grandmother was born.
The model is a conversion from Verlinden's 120mm 24th Foot Colour-Sergeant. I converted the 'Foreign Service Helmet' into the 1871 Busby, and changed the bayonet into the 1860 pattern variant. Acrylic paints were used for the metalics, gaiters, lace, facings, waterbottle & strap. All others are oils over an acrylic undercoat.

    Hi Dave,

Really nice conversion of a very unusual subject. I can not wait to see the rest of your "hisory" project. Keep us posted.

Thanks Loren. Without the info that you sent me it would have been a lot more difficult to complete.

Thanks for the compliments guys. One other mod that I did was to open the loading lever on the rifle - if he's reaching for the next round from his pouch then he'd have opened the breech first!
