... and what's that in his pocket? A small flask 'o hootch?

Great stuff Gary! I should really say this more often but I really enjoy following these threads.

Marvin, Thanks. I'm not sure what's in there. I do love doing pockets and haversacks, imagining all the rations and odds n ends that go in there.~Gary

    Gary,

I know you had taken photographs for this particular subject, but in general do you "wing it" when it comes to determining wrinkles? Or do you carefully plan it out?

Francesca, If I'm not working from a photo or illustration I try to put in folds that make sense based on the pose of the figure. It would be easy to just start putting folds everywhere, but they would not makes sense if I stopped paying attention to the figure's pose. In short I try to have some kind of plan as to what goes where.~Gary

    No is was not.

Another thing that is important when planning your folds is what type of material/fabric are you duplicating? Wool, linen, leather etc. all react differently to movement.~Gary

I imagine a tin-type case in his pocket or small bible. Tiny "dime novels" were also popular. It could be a flask in there too, but I don't remember posing with one.

    Folds look awesome my friend.

A few wrinkles have been worked into the side of the shirt. After the figure has been baked a few times I will go in with some fine sandpaper and steel wool to clean up any tool marks.
