I guess you'd have to be Canadian to truely appreciate this, and I know, it's not military. I had asked for some advice from the planeteers earlier on repainting a McFarlane 12" sports figure. So I thought I would share how it turned out with those of you kind enough to share your experiences with me. Once it was primed with acrylic, the oils went with no problem, and I am quite pleased with the final result. For all my non-Canadian friends, this is Frank Mahovlich, one of Hockey's all time greats. He played in the late 50's and 60's. Our government made him a senator, which kind of shows you how we love our hockey, eh? :lol:

btw.......we are not strictly "Military" and planetfigure is all about all figures including sports. Thanks for posting the finished photo. Whats next on your bench?

Thanks everyone. Your encouragement is always appreciated, as are your questions.

Talino, to tell the truth, I didn't remove any of the original paint, but merely applied Model Master acrylic primer right over the existing colour scheme. This gave some "tooth" for the oil paint to adhere to, and the original paint showed through enough to act as a guide for my paint job. I wouldn't recommend any attempt to remove the old paint, as any solvent you would use for this would probably damage the soft vinyl of the figure.

Guy, it's funny you should ask. I have about three commissions, and a local exhibition to try and get ready for, all in about two weeks! So my workbench is crowded indeed. For example:

Pegaso's Teutonic Grand Master AND Marcomanni warrior
Andrea's German Wermacht soldier in 54mm
Pilipili Sitting Bull Bust
A little project I'm working on with Dan Morton (Dan...this list is in no particular order! :lol: )
And if I feel like I have the time, I have another MacFarlane figure of Montreal Canadiens great, Yvon Cournoyer.
How's that for a full plate? Now if I could just find time for the job, wife and kids.

You did a great job on him, and I'd love to hear how you modified it from the original! Were there seams to fill?

And the Roadrunner would be a great figure! Is there a Serge Savard or a Beliveau in the series?

Only a token comment - I became a Leaf fan in '68 (good timing huh?) and lasted until about 1984 (coinicdentally the year I married ). Professional athletes are more like mercenaries these days and if they have no loyalty to their teams I don't see why I should. But nice figure anyway - Borje Salming next?

Ah...I knew you fellow hosers were out there! Thanks to you all for your kind comments. Allow me to respond to some of the questions.

Stephan and Andy, there were a few mold seams that need to be dealt with. Some of the joints on the figure are articulated, and so have a seam were the arms, gloves, legs and neck move. I poured some CA glue into these joints to make sure they wouldn't move again, then used magic sculp to fill them in.

As for other figures from McFarlane, that line is amazing! Movies, TV comic characters and sports figures from the NBA, MLB, NFL and of course NHL hockey. There is a Jean Beliveau available, and looks incredible. I have the Yvon Cournoyer and actually wanted the Gretzky in Oilers colours, but they were sold out! Now if I were truely patriotic, I would order myself the two figure diorama of Bob and Doug MacKenzie, complete with Great White North set! Maybe for the Canadian Night contest at my local model club.

Colin, I looked up "long suffering" in the dictionary, and it showed a picture of a Maple Leaf fan. But it's a new season with new rules, and I suppose anything is possible......naw! Go Oilers! :lol:

Glenn - Take your time on the figure of the General. Spend 15 or even 20 minutes with the family, smooch the wife, give the kids a big hug, pat the dog, take two bites from a PB&J sandwich, and a big swig of milk -
BUT THEN GET BACK TO PAINTING! :lol:

There are lots of the Marfarlane horror figures available at the 'Media Play' chain around here. And I saw a few football figures too, but I'll have to keep my eyes open for those old Habs.
