    Guys,
Here are a couple in progress pics of the Irish Legion Sapper I am working on...I still have a lot of work to do, but wanted to pass these along, just the same...
The bearskin, face, apron and green parts of the jacket are in progress...I think the green is a lil too faded...
    Thoughts?

    All the best

... well painted (y) , but I haven't a clue about what the green colour for the Irish legion should be like - dark, or rather bright ?? So I can't help you there ... was it supposed to be a Chasseur green?

    Patrick,

It's looking really good. The apron is especially well done. I don't know about the green. Green like this is tough, is it still pretty wet? If so, it may look better to you after it dries.

I would have to agree with John....lets see the green after it dries. The rest of the figure is super Patrick........paint on!

    Johan, John and Guy,
Yep, the green is still wet...I think you are right; once it dries and a couple matte coats are applied, I am sure it will tone down some.

The apron was a real challenge, since I didn't want to go straight white...I mixed in a lil burnt umber and then added in some flake white to bring the value up till I got to the whitest parts...I then used a lil dab of acrylic white like a glaze to tie it all in...I'll take a little yellow ochre and some mars brown and add some dirt to the base of the apron.

I'll post some more pics as I go along...

    Thanks for the kind words...

    All the best

A nice and interesting slant on one of my favourite units. I think your green is pretty well right - almost every source you look at shows a different green.
Can't wait to see the finished figure. ;) Well Done

    Thanks Stephen...
I will keep posting updates until he is done...You are right about that green; I have looked at three references and each have a different shade of green. I feel a lil better now about it.

    Hope all is well

Glad to here you got the scan alright, if you require any other Napoleonic subject matter please let me know and I will see what I can dig up.

Your sapper is looking great, would like to see how the green turns out. As I said in my e-mail I have just got a 54mm Flanquer Grenadier of the Guard and he is also in green, a darker shade like that in the scan.

Will post to this great site once I get going, as it seems to me to be one of the most friendly and informative sites on the net. After many years out of figure modelling this site has got the old jucies flowing again but will have to get a few practice figures out of the way before putting myself in the firing range.

    Patrick-

Looks great. I agree with your comments about toning down the highs on the beard.

Good choice on the flake white. Your whites here look impressive.

    Keep going! :)

Dude! He's missing his left hand!

    DOOK!

    Brother Lou,
    You slay me!

Thanks Keith...I gave the beard a wash last night and it looks much better...I discovered flake white about a year ago and really like the way it makes the whites pop out. I'll hit the bottom of the apron with a lil yellow ochre and some mars brown and drybrush it up and then do the final blending...I really like this guy so far.

    Hope all is well

    Thanks again

    All the best

Patrick, very nice job. I like the colors, especially the somewhat worn look of the apron. (y)~Gary
