I got my copy in today's mail and in a word WOW! It is just fantastic, inside are several views of the Pamplin park murals along with others done for the Abraham Lincoln library and museum and the National Park service. There are also several single figure studies and figure studies done for his larger paintings. Lots of great figure ideas.Below is one of the figure studies. Get it while it's hot!

Gary- I have been to Pamplin park a few times and have always admired the museum and the grounds as well. Didnt KR scuplt the two confederates at the entrance of the museum. I always thought they woulld look well in miniature.

Pamplin Park? Your'e kidding me! That's my home town. Born and raised in Petersburg Va. My wifes' family farm resides on a portion of the Five Forks Battlefield. Obviously I'm not there now due to the army needing me for other things ;) but will be there in a week and a half. My brother is shipping off to Iraq and the whole family is getting together. I'll go by their terrific bookstore and pick a copy up.

    Thanks Gary (y) ,
    Jim Patrick

Ron Tunison sculpted the 2 generic pieces in front of the main building at Pamplin Park. Ron's work can also be seen at Gettysburg and Sharpsburg.

Jason- Good to see you're still involved in miniatures. We miss you in Roanoke!

I love Ron's sculpting and enjoy getting to see his larger than life figures at places like Gettysburg. I've photographed them many times.

Jim, No problem. I wish your brother well and hope his time quickly passes so he can safely return home to your family~Gary

    Gary,
I got the book last month and got Keith to sign it at the DC show. It's been sitting at my coffee table ever since and gets opened frequently. Aside from the incredible artwork, the book's layout is brilliant too. It's a must have. As luck would have it, I have to drive down to Hampton, VA for work next week and I plan on taking a detour to Pamplin Park on the way home on Wednesday.

Pete, It is a great book and I find Rocco's work inspires me more to want to do something 2-D more than Troiani. It must be his style. It's loose in a lot of ways but yet still full enough of the little details. The point of view that Rocco picks for some of his paintings is also interesting. There are very few who would choose to depict an infantry assault showing it from the rear. Two of my favorites in the book are the Gettysburg mural for the Lincoln library and museum, it's just an awesome painting. The other is the 54th Massachusetts assaulting Fort Wagner, both of which would make nice prints.

As for Pamplin Park, one day I hope to get there in addition to the several battlefields/historicals site in virginia, there is so much to see.~Gary

    Gee are you lucky! :)
