I modified the Young "WW1 Stormtrooper" by stripping his backpack , rifle and hand grenade pouches and adding the shoulder straps and folds of the overcoat and extending the gas mask strap. He seemed like he needed a moustache, so I added that, too. The painting was done in acrylics. Thank you for looking.

That pensive look on his face explains the title of your piece perfectly. Great work.

Just saw All Quiet on the Western Front and this captures the feel and colours of the movie perfectly.

Very nice muted painting and conversion to get a unique piece.

My only critique (and it's just a personal taste thing) is that I think it would have worked better on a dark (and maybe slightly smaller) base. When I clicked on the photos my eyes were initially drawn more to the base than the bust.

Such a nice result after your extensive modifications on the original casting. Wonderful paint work capturing a very dramatic look.

This is from The Top Drawer. It might be the best bust I will see all year. I know the year is young, but this will take some beating.

If I painted something this well, I'd pack in and collect stamps, knowing I'd never better it.

You've entered The Pantheon, no question.

    Absolutely agree there

Like the hairy addition and the lens on the gas mask ......how did you do them ?

If I may I agree with Steve's base comment

Hi Dave that's perfect timing for me as I started cleaning up the resin on this bust the other night, it seems that the AQOTWF film has focused a lot of our attention on WW1 subjects and how could we not be moved by the content of the film, you have done a great job on this and look at all the bits you have left over for the spares box.
I agree with the guys about the plinth, I personally hunt the world over for a suitable wooden base for each subject and I am not always successful and the project comes to a halt over it, I was lucky enough to find a local wood turner and commissioned about 10 cylindrical plinths that are perfect for the presentation of Busts and just the right size to hold in the hand, see example that may be useful, there's probably the same amount of wood involved but the pedestal shape softens the effect.

Thank you all very much for your comments. I will see if I can find something different for the base.
