Have to say that Joe Hudson isn't a name I'm familiar with, but then FSM isn't a publication that I habitually check out.

I suspect it's going to be yet another orgy of acrylics with little to offer the oil painter, but it looks nice enough and might be worth a punt at that price.

    Hi Steve

Yeah Steve, I’m one of those acrylic painters BUT I used to be one of those OIL guys!

I switched because I got tired of painting the figures twice, base coats then oils. I still remember a few things about oils and here are a few examples of ALL OILS.

If you want to try to switch or feel like I think the book would help but if not I fully understand.

    Have a great day!

    Joe

    Very nice work Joe.

Try as I may (and God knows I've tried ) I just can't get my head around acrylics. They remain a "dark art" for me and I think they always will do. So I remain a strictly "oils over an acrylic base" man, I fear I am too long in the tooth to make the switch now.

Good luck with the book. I hope it sells well for you. I might even pick up a copy myself (a guy can't have too many books!)

    Hey Steve,

I was the exact same way as you. What I found was over time was to just make the transition slow, for example if you are doing a figure, paint it in oils but maybe just paint the belt or shoes in acrylics. My hardest transition was the flesh. How I did this was to paint the flesh in oils then when dry put some light highlights in glazes and some deep shadows with acrylics.

I am trying to paint more realistic myself now. If this book does well I will do another one on this new technique that I’m trying to master.

If I can be of any help, please let me know. E655678D-1FAD-499D-9329-1901A377F5E1.jpeg 46CEBB3D-C961-47C6-A308-853D32EC69BF.jpeg CDAE1154-4BC5-45FE-A634-9A3D9D1363C0.jpeg

    Hi Guys

Bit of a update on this from Joe on social media

Just wanted to post an update on my book.

It was originally scheduled for April but they have actually begun to be shipped out and delivered.

My local shop Mark Twain Hobby Center has received theirs and today I was up there signing all the books that had requested to be signed and personalized those who requested that as well.

Thank you to all of you have have supported me!
