    Hi everyone

Following on from my thread about this release here: https://www.planetfigure.com/posts/1289832

I must admit its nice to see a company like MODEL VICTORIA who are based in Italy and are better known for their specialist area of 1/35th figures deciding to expand into busts

    IMG_5633.JPG

This being the first we will look at

The subject is a WW1 subject from the empire of Austro-Hungary and is based on a photograph of a Sgt just after he was captured by British troops on the Italian front in 1918

Proudly wearing 2 medals which you see on the sculpt and retains a little bit of pleasure in the form of a pipe peeking out from his left breast pocket.....more about this on the sculpt later

Shipping was fast and presented no problems , despite the courier mis- delivering !!!!...sent in padded postal bag , inside the cardboard box was a simple but secure affair the fold over lid we see a coloured picture of the painted bust

    IMG_1278.jpg

Opening the lid reveals the contents covered by paper shavings and a colour diagram relating to a paint set (more soon )

    IMG_1279.jpg

on opening we find the contents in 3 clear resealable bags

    IMG_1280.jpg

Despite the packing my review helmet was damaged I contacted Model Victoria who has already sent a replacement....can't argue with that good service

The parts consist of torso , helmet, 2 x chin straps , helmet lugs x 4 and 3 pipe stems

    IMG_1281.jpg

I will deal with prep as we look at the resin in the next part

I mentioned a paint set this can be purchased as a package or separately, I will be using it when I paint this and do a write up then

    Lets rock with the resin

Torso ......... a lot of prep was expected looking at the undercuts.... I was wrong , all that's needed is a slight sanding on the lower edge of the coat at the rear and on the underside .......a good start

Wearing the overcoat , slightly dishevelled as in the reference picture, a pocket bulging with the shape of a pipe, the 3 pointed pockets are well done , good definition on the edges as is the centre piece on the uniform, the collar is lifted on the left point , on both the rank of Sgt is shown in 3 stars , behind is a strip in the facing colour , the collar has good folds

The overcoat is full and open to show the uniform , good creases the undercuts being well done , at the rear the coat is sectioned as it was in the original, the shoulders have epaulettes in place

Both the uniform and the coating have TEXTURE , this will be highlighted when painting if you so wish

The neck area has a good cut out ready to take the head into place

On the underside there is a angled piece of resin allowing the piece to sit level on the chosen base

    IMG_1283.jpg IMG_1288.jpg IMG_1284.jpg IMG_1285.jpg IMG_1286.jpg IMG_1287.jpg IMG_1289.jpg IMG_1290.jpg IMG_1291.jpg IMG_1292.jpg IMG_1296.jpg

    Head

This is looking forward with a moustache , clean shaven , you could add stubble using either texture paste or by paint effects , no hair is sculpted , as the head is fully covered by the helmet when in place

Good facial features including forehead lines and a full nose, eye definition is good , thankfully the eyes are full and do not have a hole for the pupil

Fit is easy with locating lugs on underside of neck and the top of the head

You can see where the casting line was removed at the rearprior to shipping , nice to see

    IMG_1307.jpg IMG_1302.jpg IMG_1303.jpg

    IMG_1306.jpg IMG_1305.jpg IMG_1304.jpg

    Helmet

As I stated this was damaged on receipt but Model Victictoria did a great response with a replacement on the way , the helmet is correctly shaped for the 1917 version, studs are place with just the armoured shield ones needing to be put in place

Underneath there is a ample cutout with edging around allowing the head to sit correctly

On the inside , one on each side is a cutout to fit the chin strap in place ....well though out by the company , making it easier to fit for the customer

    IMG_1297.jpg IMG_1298.jpg IMG_1299.jpg IMG_1300.jpg IMG_1301.jpg

    Final Pieces

Helmet strap ....just incase.... 2 are provided which is a nice touch , buckles are good and look fine , fit is aided by the locating cutouts on the inside of the helmet

Be careful removing the strap from the former

    IMG_1308.jpg

The shield lugs are tiny so 4 are provided ...incase the carpet monster is about !!! , they are fiddly to do so perhaps could be cast in place on future releases

    IMG_5626.JPG

Pipe end ...3 are thoughtfully provided as again fit is fiddly , again perhaps cast in place might be easier for the company ...but this does show well the company is thinking of the customer

    IMG_1309.jpg

    Final Thoughts

A good first release from MODEL VICTORIA , casting is good with interesting details , a good representation of the reference , well produced and nice to see a Austro Hungarian subject

Lets hope there are more on the way from them

Thanks to Model Victoria for the review piece and to you all for looking in

Good detail, and clean cast. The provision of extra pieces seems to me a magnificent detail, because the most careful modeler can break the small resin ones, to me, who am a bit handy, it has happened many times.
