Hi Everyone,

On behalf of Talant S Miniatures, I am pleased to announce a new Samurai Archer mounted on a true Japanese Kiso horse is in the works and shall be available soon in 54, 90 and 120mm. Here are some wip pictures. Master Scoodanbekov is working on the final sculpt refinement for the 54mm.







It’s been years since a true Kiso horse ridden by the Samurai is available in the historical figure market.
The horses of the Japanese Kiso breed have a large and heavy head as well as a wide forehead. The neck is short and thick. The trunk is long, with short, but sturdy short legs attached with a plump girth. The hooves are hardy and well-formed. The mane is heavy and so is the tail. The Kiso horse stands at an average height of just over 13 hands (52 inches, 132 centimeters).

Well done!

Glad to see someone finally getting the horse right for a mounted samurai. I'm no sculptor and certainly no horse sculptor, but I would say however that the actual pose of the horse looks a little off to me. The front legs appear to be in position for a galloping horse whilst the rear legs seem to be in a position for a horse rearing up on its hind legs. I think if the rear legs are going to be consistent with the pose of the front legs then they should be further forward under the horse's body and only one leg should be in contact with the ground. Happy to be corrected by those who know more about this than me but just offering my thoughts since you are going to such lengths to get the horse right.

A most exciting release. I’m looking forward to the 54mm version. The pose has to be a trade off between realism and model balance.

Indeed..resin weight means easy breakage absent internal armature..and looking at photos same as Harto, those little horses do seem to move a bit differently from what we usually see..but I know diddly about horses and samurai..I applaud the art and respect Felix as someone who tries to get things right in his field..and Talant for wanting to deliver the best result

If you look at the horses at full gallop, very often both back hooves are touching the ground. Talant isn’t playing around with this one. Man.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but the hand held horse seems to be showing the horse with a different gait ! When I looked up your instagram profile I got the same impression ! Can you please clarify !

Now I am adapting the Samurai to 54mm. Some details at 54mm are too small and not visible, I make them larger and more expressive. This is the first test print, I need to print several times to fix everything.

I also think, the bow should look a bit different...

I made such a bow in my first samurai 54mm. It is not suitable for 54 mm, it will be very thin, it breaks. I plan to make such a bow for 120 mm.

Friend, honestly said, if you're making a samurai archer, you've got to take that into account and maybe add something like that out of steel wire.
Other manufacturers do too.

If this is not possible or seems too expensive to produce and therefore only a fantasy flash bow is included, better leave it alone!

Samurai has long bow Daikyu(大弓) over 2 meter 212 to 245cm and the shorter bow Hankyū (半弓) 45 to 160 cm.
