    Hi everyone

Been rooting through the GA and happy to find these from

    IMG_3534.JPG

They are the V bust version of these IMG_3124.JPG IMG_3127.JPG

They are currently looking like this , the 8th Hussar is basecoated and the distinctive regimental cords added , the 5th Lancer has been primed and then the cap top levelled with a thin layer of putty and cap lines added and plume pinned ( snapped it off as well on the ferrule ..so it's pinned twice now ! )

    IMG_3527.JPG IMG_3528.JPG

I will run these together next mission is to basecoat the Lancer

    Some refs !

    The 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers

1n 1881 the regiment had the badge of the Royal Arms with crest above in silver. Below was the Irish Harp with a spray of shamrocks either side. In 1882 the battle honours of BLENHEIM, OUDENARDE, RAMILLIES and MALPLAQUET were awarded and appeared on the plate in 1885. SUAKIN was awarded in 1885 but did not appear on the plate until much later. The 1900 Regulations do not include Suakin. Battle honours for the DEFENCE OF LADYSMITH and SOUTH AFRICA 1899-1902 did not appear on the plate until the next reign.

    Hi Leggy

Good to have you on this , shame the series stopped for V busts , they will look good painted up

Also have unpainted full blown busts ( no legs ...lol ) of these 2

IMG_1322.JPG Viking Bob did a great paint on his version https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/major-2nd-bn-royal-munster-fusiliers-1899.343060/

    IMG_2575.JPG

There is a plate c1910 from the 3rd ref book above ......2 medals ....mmmmm.......

On further investigation c1910 the pouch belt was only worn by Officers/bandsman ......so that idea is out !

Happy benchtime or in your case Happy landing ....chocks away......

Uniform colour nearly complete , flesh and cap all done

Hair still do do ...probably go for a graying look as he does look quite old !

Next will be the lacework ......not going to push the highs too much just use pure black for the deep shadows ....we shall see how it goes

Any ideas on painting the lace always welcome

    Thanks for looking

    Hi everyone

    A verbal update

I have removed the plume and will sort a better replacement more in shape with the references , wasn't happy with the sausage look ......on Mrs Naps idea is to use a silk thread ....stay tuned

After removing plume I did rework the holder .....but will now sculpt a fluted replacement in the shape as in references above

Helmet nearly completed , just the red sides to paint and the rosette ( on this I added a tiny bit of putty to represent the regimental button worn )

Really beginning to enjoy this (thinking about next project maybe AWI bust from TFB)

Great site ...recommend you bookmark it www.uniformology.com

Found some more good references to show plume and holder , you can see how they are tied as it goes into holder

So glad you did this. When I saw the WIP I did think "it looks like he's got a sausage hanging off his headgear"...........:)

    Hi Nigel

LOL ....I like a challenge ....holder now all done , waiting for putty to fully go off ...I have approached Tommi to see if he can do a 3D option plus plume based on my refs but we shall see ...he's a busy man !

Finished the headwear and the cords , finely cast so a bit of a constant checking ....still to do the olives on the end and the shoulder cords , then the waist belt ...once these are done will post a pic or two

    ......then it's the flesh

Here's a nice version by Cannonball of the full bust https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/sgt-farrier-5th-royal-irish-lancers.123640/

    Stay tuned
