Hello again lads, firstly, thanks for all your kind comments on my last post. It always spurs me on to do better.
So, on to the next one.

As the title says, it’s the US Marine (the box says US Infantryman) from Mitches. Now, I know there’s been a few things said about this one but, a little bit of reworking and I think it came out ok.

A few of you have already seen this over on Kitmaker (looking at you, Ski!) but, I thought you lads might like to see it too.
    All the best now,
    G

Glad you took the time to post this one, probably best version I have seen of this figure and it is made even better by the superb groundwork you have done for it.
    Cheers

    Hi G

Of course we want to see this , not my thing as there are legs but that's a cracking bit of modelling, both on figure and basework

Nice camo and wear on the boots

Superb. Excellent paint work and fantastic groundwork. I have this one on the shelf, started to add some more groundwork too.

What are the issues that people have mentioned? Vietnam era and gear is not my strong point, but I was taken by the great pose of the figure against the tree.

I'll be "safe keeping" those pictures as a reference for when i start mine...

Hi Henk, there were, in fact, quite a few issues with this kit. I think the sculptor designed it as a pre-1966 Marine. The fatigues are the 1st pattern jungle fatigues and the butt pack is the earlier square pattern. I wanted my figure to be later, around 69-70, wearing the ERDL ripstops. Best way to address this was to resculpt the pockets to the later pattern. Likewise, the butt pack. The M16 is wrong and was replaced with a Reedees item. As a rule, the Marines didn’t use the helmet band so, that had to go as well. The boots were also reworked. Ammo pouches were made from putty and smoke and frag grenades from an old Verlinden kit were repurposed. The canteen was given a new cap as well. T-shirt sleeves were made from putty. The tree itself had a very bad mismatch between the two halves. I’ll let the photos say more about that. Nothing that a Dremel can’t handle though. There were a lot of rough patches and mould seams. The resin is quite soft and needed care in reworking it.
I’m the same as you. It was the pose that attracted me to it. As can be seen from the finished photos, it will build up into something very nice. Be prepared for a lot of work though.
    All the best,
