Welcome to Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. All tickets only 35 cents.

These three figures, sculpted by Roger Saunders, were released separately long ago, in the 90s, I believe. I always wanted to put them together into a vignette but never got around to doing it. Finally, as I have been doing quite a few vignettes lately, I managed to Get-R-Done.

I decided to build a platform where Buffalo Bill could greet his audience and introduce his star performers, Sitting Bull and Annie Oakley, who joined the show in 1885. This was done with some scrap pieces of Basswood.

I also added a Poster from the show, printed off the Internet and downsized to fit my requirements, on regular paper and coated with Mod Podge Matte to seal and add some body and texture. I didn't want the poster to upstage the figures, so it is set behind them as background interest.

I gave Sitting Bull the Prime position for the current performance as, in my world, they all take turns and besides, he fit better on the base in that position.

All work was painted with acrylics.

    Thanks for looking!

    Cheers,
    Ken

    Great setting. :D
I've painted Buffalo Bill and Annie and thought I might get around to a dual basing at some time to save on cabinet spacing. Your's might even be the push to get it done ;)

I love this one. I grew up in Leclaire Iowa about 1/4 mile from the Cody homestead where the Cody family lived for a few years before moving further West. It was fun as a boy to think you were roaming the same woods as Bill Cody when he was a boy. Hell, my Elementary School was named "William F. Cody Elementary School" . Lol. So anything to do with him catches my attention, especially when that well painted and presented.

Lovely work Ken! Your little vignettes are an absolute pleasure to view. I remember these figures from way back - certainly stand the test of time.

Thanks Steve, a great story! I've always been fascinated with Cody and have painted several versions over the years. I even sculpted a 90mm commercial version for, the short lived, Imperial Miniatures back in the 70s. I still have a couple more Cody figures in my stash waiting to be painted. :)

    That’s delightful Ken!
    Thanks for sharing.
I painted Cody up many years back & sold to a US collector - I do miss him & have Annie alone by herself with no partner. :-(
Always loved Rogers figures albeit a bit static they are some of my most special figures & were important in growing my painting confidence, evolving from from oils to enamels finally culminating in acrylics with Billy The Kid my first full acrylic figure.

Your project down Memory Lane has been inspiring.
Have you got the other Masterclass classics by Gianpierro Russo?

Thanks Mike! I'm sorry to say, I don't have any of Russo's figures. I've still got several Saunder's figures that I want to paint. Simple but fun figures. :)
