Captain Albert Ball was a British fighter pilot during the First World War.

He ranks fourth on the list of the most successful British fighter pilots in World War I.

He was the first Briton to be awarded the Distinguished Service Order three times.

Albert Ball did not survive the great Oorlog - On the evening of May 7, 1917, after 31 aerial victories, Albert Ball was shot down behind the front line by fighter pilots of the German Jagdstaffel 11, presumably by Lothar von Richthofen. Posthumously he was awarded the "Victoria Cross".
