21 years in the making….and now it’s gone!
    A warning to everyone attending
    and exhibiting at model shows.
Bugle Call 2021 was an enjoyable and successful show but ended on a rather sour note. Jim Dew and I had figures stolen from our stand. Jim lost a figure that he made of the late Peter Sturgeon in No1 Dress as part of our tribute display. I lost my 54mm mounted Samurai, converted from the Andrea foot figure. Yes the one that I wrote the article about and took 21 years to complete. Both these figures had a lot of emotional value, never mind the hours put into their creation, so Jim and I are pretty gutted. Jim also had a figure stolen from our stand at the recent BMSS Nats/Interbranch in Reading.
It would appear we have a thief in our midst, who is targeting displays at shows. We only have about 4/5 active members, who were all involved in various aspects of running the show and competitions, so there were times when the stand was unattended. This is just a warning to everyone who exhibits at model shows, not to leave your stand unattended and to pay particular attention to anyone hovering about that you do not know.
I am not going to let this thief win. I am going to make another one, better this time. Don’t think I have 21 years left though, so better get a move on this time!
Pictures of the stolen items are shown below and I would appreciate you getting in touch if you see these items for sale or on display, although I don’t hold out much hope for recovery. Jims mounted figure that was taken at the Nats/Interbranch was similar to that below, but was a trumpeter on a white horse.
    Kind regards, Bob Orr,

Sickening Bob. What is wrong with people these days? I know of a couple of figures going "walkabout" at Euro a few years ago but this sort of thing never used to be an issue in our hobby, it was unheard of.

Might be an idea to keep an eye on eBay listings in case the perp tries to offload them on there. In which case you already have photographic proof that they are your property so you could potentially involve the Old Bill and have them done for theft.

There was a guy clocked attempting to take one of our members models off the table at Telford, recently. Luckily, eye contact was made and the guy sloped off and disappeared into the crowd..!(y)

Bob, so sorry to hear this. It seems to be getting more prevalent. There used to be regular issues at Telford but it has got a lot tighter there now. I do however know of several instances at local shows where display and competition items have vanished. These bad-asses need identifying, naming and shaming and banning but it isn't easy to achieve that. Vigilance is everything.

I've posted this on another site and had this back "Its Russian, but quite extensive, try Yandex Image Search . It has a language translator on right click, a colleague of mine got his stolen cabin cruiser back by frequently searching, turned up for sale in the Aegean." hopefully might help

So sorry to hear what happened Bob.
What an Abject Object (and probably a Reject, when it comes to actual friends).
I'll refrain from recounting what should happen to him it, since the language would probably be deemed unprintable.

Sadly, such incidents are nothing new, and heartbreaking when they do occur. Secure showcases might be the answer, but they can be hugely expensive. Vigilance has got to be the watchword (maybe backed up with a stout stick!) . I had one of the old books I was selling go missing at Euro from the PF stand , and I was there manning it constantly. These people are opportunists, apart from being utter scumbags. Turn your back for a moment and that's all they need.
It's sad when you think that most of us are principled chaps, and one bad apple turns out not to be.

Particularly bad when you consider that the vast majority of attendees are from within the modelling community.
Sadly and particularly annoying is that this might have been by a sticky fingered opportunist rather than a targetted theft.
No cosolation but a discerning thief might at least appreciate what he's stolen whereas a malicious thief might just do it for the buzz and then throw them away.

Lord. My faith in humanity just went down another notch. Sorry this happened. All of us know as I’m assuming he does that our models are worth 1000x more in sentimental value than monetary. Obviously a sick individual. A good blow to the dome is the only remedy here.

Its interesting the Cockroach took finished models, which are quite fragile in nature, and not easily concealed, rather than unmade boxed figures, which can be stashed quickly in deep pockets. ( Yes he probably had a few kits in the pockets as well ) He obviously took a liking to yours and, his need was more important than yours..
Its a long shot but I would report the theft to your local Police, just in case they turn up on their doorstep. In Australia we can add pictures of stolen items to the report, which helps. But items not reported end up at local Auctions when no owners can be found.
I guess, it being a timely reminder just before Christmas, to keep an eye on everything. Thieves' are opportunists with big pockets....

Bob, I hope you get around to doing another mounted Samurai..
