    Hello my friends,

i'm back at the bench with a new project i'm in love with, as you know i painted Kyaaten 2 years ago

    https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/kyaaten-joaquin-palacios-studio.190881/#post-1031217

and it was a blast of pure beauty, this bust is the same person but in her younger days, when she was a princess, enjoying the company of her Caracal ... i ordered the bust as soon as it was released directly from Palacios.

all i can say is that the sculpt is exquisite and opens so many possibilities for the painter in terms of colors, ambiance etc.
assembly is an easy one : left arm, Cat'S head, Crown, belt buckle and the 2 ribbons at the back of her head.

she'S wearing a "dress" made of a netting of pearls ... which will be a challenge to paint (my plan is to go with Lapis Lazuli pearls and gold) as the skin is showing in each hollowed square ... but that's what we love no ?

only place i had to use some putty was to fix a very little gap at the jonction between the left arm and shoulder. i didn't found any moldline or flash on the bust. i did engrave some more texture at the neck of the cat just to have the fur corresponding between the 2 parts.

so here i am today (since those pictures she's been primed in matte black, and i let it dry for the next week)

this is going to be a work of love :)

Coming from you, I'm sure she's going to be a beautiful painting work!!!
Can't wait to see both busts (adult and younger) side by side when they're finished!
It's going to be a very interesting process with a lovely result!! :)

yesterday i started the paint, here you will see what i call the skin base.

for this basing work on busts i use the airbrush in order to have clean transitions of light and shadows.
base color i used was made of roughly 80% african shadow and 20% arabic shadow, then i slowly add golden skin to the mix to create the firsts zenithal highlights.
from now on the brush will be used to push the lights and work on hues in the shadows :)
    paint references are Scalecolors names.

so here is yesterday's work :

today i'll go for the eyes, highlights and probably starting on her makeup ... some good times at the bench on the forecast :)

    hello friends,

on sunday i worked on the face, the eyes and i started to add tones variations to the skin.
for the irises it's a first coatof deep blue, then a circle of gobi desert, inner circle of golden skin, and finally a little dot of deep blue for the pupil
skin tones variations are mostly glazes of arabic shadow and sunny skin tone, little bit of pale skin on the upper highlights.
sorry for the crappy picture taken indoor ... it was night outside ;)

as usual all colors references are scalecolors

    work of the week-end :)
painting all those pearls in lapis lazuli for a dress almost makes me loose my sanity !!! but in the end the process is paying ...
I also worked on her makeup, eyes, and begun the golds :) (golds are S75 true metals)
all colors are Scalecolors as usual, for the blue Lazuli i used deep blue, Mediterranean blue and Adriatic blue with white

    010.jpg 011.jpg 012.jpg 013.jpg

it begins to look cool i think ?
feel free to comment as usual :)
