As the title suggests, looking for some help with Roman shield designs. Currently have the RP models Mithradates set on the bench and my research suggests that the Fimbrian and Valerian legions were involved in the fight against Mithradates. Does anyone know if either of these legions had specific shield designs or motifs on their shields or would it be the more standard set of wings, lightning bolts etc. I seem to remember the topic of shield designs being discussed previously on the forum and there possibly being a book on the subject but can’t for the life of me remember the details.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Μιθριδάτης or Mithridate, most famous is Mithridate VI, -135 to -65 , in fight against Rome between - 88 - 65, thus late Republic
By the first cent ( before ) it has turned in the rectangular semi-cylyndrical form, it's also the period f the slave uprising -73 ( Spartacus )

This is the most extensive list of shield designs I’ve found online although I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the legions they’re labeled to.

Thanks Nap. I had a look on the internet for references for Roman soldiers relating to the period and it brought up a picture with a shield bearing a running boar on the upper half. Don’t know if it related to the legions I’ve mentioned.
