    Hello

This is my most ambitious model to date. I’ve mostly done single figures, but got caught up with an online Twitter competition put on by Al Murray and the excellent We Have Ways podcast (highly recommend)

I never finished the Jeep in time for the competition, but did eventually complete this 3 figure vignette, in the wet Hürtgen Forest in late November 1944.

Superb. Alpine figures are all crisp sculpts, & you've really done them justice with your painting here.

Excellent. You really nailed the wet, miserable, muddy atmosphere. Your painting is outstanding.

This is a superb job all round, without question.

For me though, the highlight is that ground work. I can never get mine looking this good. (y)

I spent way too long walking through mud like this with my dogs taking random photos and over analysing this winter, but I’m pleased it’s appreciated, thanks!

Thank you! Goal achieved! I did try to reign in going overboard with the mud on the uniforms, hopefully struck the right balance.

I do agree. It can be tricky knowing when to stop.

Yes, it is tricky to 'paint' wet clothing in a convincing way, but combined with your excellent groundwork, it looks superb. You really nailed the 'wet and cold and miserable forest trail' of the Hürtgen, rather than the knee deep churned up mud so often modeled.

    Lovely work all round.

I used to see this kind of stuff in modelling mags when I was a kid, and it was the sort of thing that really fired my imagination and made me want to do something like it. I haven't done any armour modelling in ages, but I have a half-built Jeep in the stash and this is nudging me in the direction of getting it out, finishing it off and basing it up with a couple of figures!

Fabulous and I only wish that I could do ground work like that. Tremendous work and presentation.

Excellent vignette, Rob! You hit it on all three-the figures, the Jeep, and the base. I like your colors, too. Everything shows wear and dirt, but your colors aren't washed out. I especially like that with flesh colors. It's refreshing to see someone take that choice.

    Prost!

Rob H, Excellent job! (y) Love the finished product! And the staging is excellent! Very nice job on the painting of the various greens. Think it all flows together well too! Thanks for sharing your work!:)
