I was really pleased to have been able to find this old (ish) Eduard kit on an Italian supplier's website. I'd made their Boris Sofanov figure in the past and really liked it, so I had high hopes.

As you can see, it's nicely packaged and contains instructions for construction and painting, and a booklet outlining Von Richtofen's career. The kit itself is contained on one sprue, and there are some painted etch insignia and decorations.

It all went together very easily, with a great fit, though as usual with injection moulded kits there was some cleaning up to do. The main part of the figure looked superb, but I had doubts about the head. However I decided to paint it to see how it looked and was disappointed:

Very cartoonish, and not a good likeness, so it was on to Plan B. I couldn't find a head with too much resemblance to Von Richtofen in the spares box, so instead I decided to depict a generic character and used another excellent head by Reedees:

A great characterful sculpt by Steve and it looks so much better. As the join at the neck needed filling, and as the detail on the moulded decoration was a bit poor I decided to give him a Milliput scarf. Etch decorations are supplied, but they are slightly misprinted, so he can do without. I did use the etch cap insignia though, but repainted it.

    So now I'm committed.......

Hi Marcin. I just add German Camo Black Brown to Flat Flesh, then build up the highlights by adding white.

    Morning Peter

    Reedee's to the rescue again

I guess you must their best customer for 1:16 heads, they do get to come off the subs bench with regularity.

Both of the heads look good, but you are at the sharp end and can see the difference.

    Lovely work.

Hopefully the hay fever will be dampened down for 24 hours later today with the torrential rains.

I got my wish to paint over the weekend!

1:1 scale fencing with a 4 inch brush!!

    Retirement isn't all I thought/hoped for!

I have some aches and pains today and still have 2/3rds of the fences still to go.

Have a better day with the paint than I will, LOL

    Regards

Steve - It wouldn't be one of my builds without a head change. Reedees have saved so many of my projects that I'm going to canonize Steve R. Painting fences doesn't sound like my idea of fun - hopefully the run will give you a break.

Nap - I enjoy working on injection kits once in a while - makes me feel like a real modeller.

Mike - Very obscure this one and a nice change from resin. Thanks for looking in.

    The jacket:

Painted with mixtures of Vallejo Camo Black Brown, Black Red, Dark Vermillion, Flat Flesh and Green Grey. It was then given a coat of thinned satin varnish.

    Pedro - Welcome aboard.

Ken - Thanks. A long way to go yet...

I've since re-painted the scarf a lilac colour as the white was dampening the skin tones, and I have also fiddled a bit with the face:

Morning Steve - Yes, boots and pants today (Ian Dury), and an easy finish hopefully. Rain should keep you out of the garden today - fingers crossed!

Nap - Nearly there - scarf is white again!

Another cracking job peter, I just don't know how you paint so many figures/busts at the rate you do and at the quality you achieve.
