When Marie-Louise had to flew from France in 1814, she took with her a great part of Napleon assets .
She had, in a hurry, to leave a part of her retinues coaches, in Chartres, including this one just rediscovered in the outbuildings of a country house near chartre, identified by the coat of arms inside and some letters left in the coach

"Anyway way to translate the article to English ?" Type French to English into the search bar in Google, then highlight the text from the article, copy and paste that into the Google translator... Voila! Bob's your uncle.

Pierre Dampierre still cannot believe it. The historian of a small town not far from Chartres was called by an owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, to reveal an incredible historical discovery to him.
Indeed the happy discoverer, heir to a family home, had undertaken to rid several outbuildings of his numerous cumbersome.
It was during this big spring cleaning that he came across a carriage, hidden under a tangle of planks, old fabrics and cobwebs.
It was when he discovered the emblazoned panel of the door that he understood that his discovery was worthy of a treasure.
With the help of Professor Dampierre, combined with the discovery of several papers still present in a small secret box, they were able to formally identify the owner of the coach and trace its history.
In 1814 France was invaded by many allied countries, the Empress Marie Louise fled Paris with the Imperial court. During her flight she had no other choice but to abandon a large part of the Imperial crews, including a coach from the coronation of Napoleon, on the forecourt of Chartres Cathedral.
Outside the uncovered coach is none other than one of the cars making up the Empress's procession and the papers found inside show that it was that of Marie Louise in person.
History does not reveal why this coach remained hidden in this house for so long, but Mr Dampierre is only at the very beginning of his research.
We can bet that this discovery is the beginning of a great story that will go beyond the limits of our region.

I confess.... I'm not a full blown history buff unless it's regarding a piece I'm working on. So let me get this straight. Marie Louise ripped off Napoleon and got away with it. Am I close..?

Nothing personal, Wayne...it was not my intention to offend. I think it's more accurate
to regard Marie-Louise as a bit of a victim or sacrificial pawn in the politics behind her
husband's first abdication. It's suggested, for example, that she left Paris at the Emperor's
expressed order, rather than just doing a runner with all the money....arguable I suppose,
but more likely than not. Later as the politics kicked in, she and her son (King of Rome)
certainly became pawns in a power game.
