Thanks Kev. I'm lucky, I have a separate room for my hobby, so I can do it without annoying swmbo..lol.

Anyhow, last update for the week, back to the day job tomorrow.
Today I've mainly concentrated on the metal work, a few targeted washes and some highlighting, and a black ink wash and some drybrushiing on the horse.

    A quick update.
I've started on some of the details, and its starting to come together now. I'm very happy how the skulls are coming along.
The leather needs more work, but the basic is there. 20210505_103413.jpg 20210505_103205.jpg

This weeks progress. It's coming together nicely (even if I say so myself...), with nearly everything now painted largely as I want it, just some small things like the hands and the sand timer to do. Before I go over it, and apply the finishing touches to everything, may I borrow your collective eyes, and tell me what you think. Be brutal (but gentle...:p), because this is the stage where tunnel vision sets in, and I find it hard to have a real objective view. I wont tell you what I think and feel needs doing, I want honest opinions, to improve my skills.

Apologies catching up a little with this ....you should be well happy with this so far ', leather looks good , possibly push weathering a bit more

Like the way you've done the skulls and the scythe

Think you should highlight those eyes and gloss

This is a complicated piece and your doing both it and yourself credit with the V bench

    Look forward to more updates

    Happy benchtine

I've browsed this several times, though the subject is outside of my usual sphere, it looks really very impressive to me. I'll leave the constructive comments to the more experienced and accomplished painters. I just keep hearing the words "the salmon mousse..."

Nice work and I picked up some inspiration for my own version.

One tiny comment - I think they eyes of the horse are too bright - they take away your gaze too much because of their brightness, particularly compared to the red inside the horses mouth and nostrils.

Perhaps a very diluted wash of some browns or cold purples would tone it down just enough for them to still have that demon-horse look, but no longer the bright flashlights they seem to be now.

    L.H.

addendum, looking back at it, perhaps if the redness of the eyes is closer to that of mouth and nostril - but still with a bit of the 'demon-light' in them - it will diminish the influence to within more esthatically pleasing ranges?

Are you planning on trying to get som object lighting from the green hour glass onto the tunic and neck of horse?

Thanks L.H. glad you like it, and looking forward to see your version. As for the eyes, yes, they will be different, thus us just a plain Red to give me a base. I'm trying a few things.
I'm not sold on the nostrs myself. It works with a bold and brighter colour, but I'm not sure with just red.
I'm not finished with the sandtimer, I fact, I only have a rough idea where I'm going with it (my style is rather 'fling it and see..' ), but I like your idea of a little bit of object lighting...

    Thank you for your input.

Not much progress today, I've redone the eyes, just red again. The sand timer needs a bit of finishing, but I'm happy with the way the glass has come out. I've given the hands a coat of Valley Bonewhite with a wash of Reikard Flesh.
