This is one I've done before, but as Historex still had one at a reasonable price, I thought I'd give it another go. These Miniature Alliance Dog Tag figures are getting very scarce now, though I do have a couple more that can be stripped down.

I believe this one may have been sculpted by Calvin Tan. It's a great sculpt, supplied in nine parts:

My only complaint was that the heavy casting blocks came right up to the edge of the main body parts making it almost impossible not to damage some areas. Quite a bit of filling was therefore needed around the waist and some replacement parts needed to be made. Also, some parts are made of white metal, not my favourite material.

I decided to start with the body. Just the front of the torso done so far:

I decided to paint the left arm and pistol in situ as it was easier to see what I was doing without the messy joins exposed. The base for the uniform is Vallejo Grey Green with a little English Uniform added and the life-vest was painted with mixes of Buff, English Uniform and Flat White.

    The rest of the parts:

He's holding a Japanese flying helmet in his right hand. Might do the head next...

For an old figure, the detail is good though I would lose some of the neck to prevent him having a giraffe like appearance.

    Good start.

Ken - Thanks for watching. This is my favourite scale.

Gary - Thanks. I quite like the long neck - gives him a gawky, farm-boy look.

    Morning Peter,

A quiet palette with this one and a smaller scale too.

I'll have to google why the life jacket is called a Mae West!

    A'hh, only when inflated! LOL

The repair work has gone well and doesn't show.

Have a fun day with the head or back?

Winter back with us for the weekend

Have a good day with the paints

    Regards

Steve - You innocent you! (Mae West). I think I'll save the head till last as I'm suffering a bit of eye-strain at the moment. Very cold here, but sunny.

Nap - I often find that the metal parts are too heavy to be supported by the resin, but at least here they aren't too big. The buff I used on the Mae West is quite a thick pigment for something so yellow and is nice to work with.

Mae West: "When I'm good I'm very, very good... and when I'm bad I'm terrific!"

Looks like fun project. Can't wait to see the progress.

    Thanks for looking in Rick.

Now we've got Mae West off our chests (ouch!), an update:

I decided to work on the head today after all. The red helmet my be a bit of artistic license, but I'm sure I've seen photos of pilots wearing them (not just deck crew), and the Verlinden box art of the same subject has one of the same colour. It may be wrong, but I like the injection of coloue.

    That’s a lovely head & you’ve captured him well.
Agree with decision to keep longer neck, it just works.

Rick - I did. Now you know where to come when you need an extremely bad pun.

Tim - They keep on coming! Thanks for looking in.

Mike - Glad you like him so far. It was a very nice head to paint.

    Morning Peter

Have to agree, the neck really has captured the gawky, farm-boy result.

The red leather does add that little bright spot in a plain palette.

Looks like its all behind you today!

Back to the frost as well!!

Have a good day with the paints

Steve - He's coming on. Loads of character in the sculpt to play with. The helmets were made of canvas, and those worn by the carrier deck crew were colour coded, so perhaps he's taken a shine to the red ones. Keep warm.

Hi Nap and thanks. I think my work at this scale is more successful than my busts and I intend to do more in future. Fortunately I have boxes full of old Verlindens to strip down and re-paint.
