Just love that Kettle Drummer Ivo a subject that seems to exist more in Flats than round figures. I'm waiting to start on the Verlinden Kit. Always great to see your inspirational work and thank you for so willingly sharing your construction techniques.

its time for new projects... between the new Figurinitaly figures I'm going to work on a new Kettledrummer..

this time are the carabiniers the subject, a figure much more clean compared to the latest chasseur but in any case a good challenge

a beautiful drawing by Pierre Benigni, not completely sure about the white laces on the arms
French Carabinier, Timbalier of 2nd Regiment, 1811.jpg

an interesting issue... a piece of the sky blue tissue that was the distinctive colors of the carabinier, much more darker than any common representation available

the figure follow my usual routine... in this case a Metal Modeles assembled horse and a converted rider. I completely resculpted the body of the man on MM heavy cavalry legs.

historex drums are perfect and I used them

Regarding the shade of blue, Yves Martin in his book on the Carabineers quotes correspondence from the Comte de Cessac, who was charged with delivering the new Carabineer uniform of 1810, with the Army Administration. He refers to the facing colour being "bleu celeste" (as opposed to bleu de ciel). This does appear to be rendered as a darker shade of blue then that widely represented, closer perhaps to bleu barbeau (which again seems to be darker than most traditional representations of cornflower blue). The main consideration seems to have been to use a shade of blue that was different to that worn by the Train of Artillery!

H0pe that this helps. Yves Martin's book is excellent, comprehensively illustrated and is well worth buying. It covers the history of the Carabineers from 1693 to 1871.

    hi Richard

for sure there are many representations completely wrong. I'm really interested on the colors change along the years.
For this reason I will try to paint the man darker than usual
