    Shenanigans time again!

I recently got hold of Young Miniatures' Zaprozhian Cossack bust, which is based on a character in a painting by Ilya Repin of the said Cossacks sending a none too polite reply to a request to surrender by the Ottoman Sultan:

    100_9823.JPG

Unfortunately, the head had a lot of moulding debris in the right eye, and when I tried to clean it up, the whole lower lid disintegrated and ruined the face. I initially threw the whole thing away in disgust (at my clumsiness), but then decided to see if I could find an alternative.

Once again, Reedees came to the rescue, and after a bit of chopping I came up with the item above. The original neck was very thick and occupied a lot of space, so I resorted to giving him a scarf as a secure base for the new head. That was made from Milliput, which also provided the hair and whiskers, and I gave him an earing made from wire.

He's no longer the figure in the painting (though he could, I suppose, be a younger version of the same man), but I think it will still have some character, especially as he'll be smoking a pipe.

    These are the rest of the parts; belt, pistol, pipe and knife;

Thanks for looking in people, and for your favourable responses - I'll try not to muck it up. Having said that:

Not over-enamoured so far. It took long session to get to this stage and was quite a struggle. I need to step away from it for a while and come back to it with fresh eyes.

I really like the face. I have the set of reedees 1/9 heads and not used them yet. Based on this, I can see them finally getting a lick of paint.

Hi Paul. I've used Steve Readdie's heads, both 1/9 and 1/16 numerous times. They've saved may a build Always very nice to work on and very adaptable.

    Morning Peter

Looks like Reedee's does it again!

Great milliput work on the hair, moustache and scarf too.

The face looks as good as all your previous work this year!

Perhaps the failed eye surgery and head swap have tainted your perception of the head?

It certainly looks the part from here.

Have a good day with the body and don't forget the census form too.

    Regards

    Steve H

    Morning Steve

Actually, I've decided to shelve this one. There's something about it that I can't get right, and which had already relegated it to the back of the cabinet. Not wasted time though, as I enjoyed the conversion and got in some good Milliput practice. Next.........

90% of all my models get put to the back of the shelf for another day. For what it's worth I thought it was coming on well.

Nap and Paul - Thanks for looking in.

I find I have occasional spells where nothing seems to go right, and the last three projects I've started have either been stripped-down or binned. Probably a case of my ambition outweighing my abilities. Hey, Ho......

I know what you mean -we're always our own harshest critics. But never bin stuff! Ive remodelled/modified stuff hundreds of times :)
