I know him well! Excellent bust!

    Legend.

Still active with much to say about current problems
Last saw him at a memorial event almost exactly two years ago at HMS HERON, RNAS Yeovilton, for his son who followed in his footsteps as an FAA Pilot, who served in Afghanistan and other places with distinction. HE Resigned in 2011 inprotest at the emasculation of FAA when RAF binned the Harrier Force. Flew civil airways but died with PTSD. Sent off on the wardroom where I had been invited by Sharkey. Only Pongo there! Why?

I had served in Army and Army Air Corp becoming a JW Ground Liaison Officer with RAF and FAA as a CBGLO (Carrier Borne Ground Liaison Officer} on HMS Ark Royal in 1971 and 19 Now he is a BUST!72. There I met a younger Sharkey who was a then a Phantom Pilot. When the Falklands War began, I was with RAF in Germany. Sharkey arrived with the other FAA Harrier Squadron Commander arrived for a Navigation exercise, {Jolly!} from UK to pick up some duty free and go back next day.

I met them on the the tarmac at RAF Gutersloh, when a messenger ran over from ATC.
Message fro HERON in UK ge: Return immediately there is a war on now! So no duty free, refuel, coffee, quick leak and off they went. The rest is history. Another Army GLO went down {lierally} south with RAF squadrons on Atlantic Conveyor. Sunk lost everything and had to swim for it! He survived but was never same again after that! Others wereers not so lucky. I listened to that war on BBC in an underground German farmyard potato store on an exercise with my Squadron of helicopters on cold war exercise against Ivan, briefing my guys on one real war and our cold one at the same time. Only I only one allowed to used a transistor radio!

This bust looks excellent and in top of my wish list.
It will appeal to all Harrier and Falkands vets. I imagine Sharkey is already aware his latest sortie! I will email him anyway.ASAP!
PS It was one hell of a partly 2 year ago .. before COVID.

READ Sharkey's books still available. Sorry Nap!

Superb sculpt and subject. And an actual living person - a refreshing change from all the Hollywood-inspired stuff that everyone seems to be churning out in bust form.

Pongo is RN term for Army! The event referred to was a FAA Wake for a man down. It went on to the small hours from 1530hours. I stayed some and left when it was in full swing. Good welcome for all there. Sharkey said come colourful. I did. Everyone else was "formal". Nice one Sharkey! I stood out so circulation was fun! A liaison office is used to brief another service on the needs an views of his own. And Vice Versa. Get it right all's well. In NATO we had hundreds of all nation forces and annual conferences and socials. Tact and diplomacy requires. QED?
