    Hello Friends,
first of all : Happy new year to all, may 2021 be the end of our problems !

to star the year I was not in the mood of finishing the Mermaid from Golem, i am in a mind stop with her ... so I started something totally new for me : a Minotaur (called The Beast) from Black Crow. we've seen some new ones from various producers lastly, but to my knowledge, Black Crow'S one was the first. sculpted by Raul Garcia Latorre this is simply a fantastic sculpt, full of mythical mood.

I choosed to go for the "standard" head and the (almost) Neolithic weapon as i found it fit better for my idea of a Minotaur :)

the built is easier than it may look and it took less than 30 minutes to reach the point of priming it. As usual i primed it with Krylon Matt Black (spray can) and let it dry for 48 hours.

then i worked my base colors with the airbrush, the chest skin is painted with a pinkish flesh tone, using "sandal wood" with a hint of purple added. for the global skin here is my recipe : i first highlighted the volumes with pure sandal wood, then i prepared a mix of deep blue and purple and carefully shot it over the skin in very thin layers, keeping the highlights visible. for shadows i took the same mix but i added 50% of Black Leather to it. at this point the Airbrush was cleaned up and put back in its box.

I then brushed a total glaze of Purple on the whole skin to blend everything together and accentuate the shadows.

horns are painted using "Birch" in very thin layers applied in lines, creating texture. various browns were then used going up to the tips.
Tattos are made with black mixed with deep blue 50/50.

I have to admit that this one is really a ton of fun and i can't wait to start on all those details of leathers, metals, bones etc :)

all paints references are from the scalecolors range.

    hello Friends,
here are the pics of where i left this project at the end of last week-end :

horns have been painted using "birch" for the white, some brown glazes for transition and some dark brown with black added for the tips.

the bandage was first painted in field gray (a kind of khaki) then i used a sand white to add volumes and textures.

not my best pictures : they were taken in near night conditions.

this week-end i'm planning to add more base colors and begin the work on leathers :)

So here I am now on saturday night :)
    i worked on the leathers and on the left arm red fabrics;

    006.jpg

for leathers : i used "black leather" as a base for the darkest tone, then i played with various browns to get variations.
on this base i applied all the weathering technics i was used to with Armor vehicles modelling :
basically you outline everything with very light colors like off-whites ... stippling, glazing, points, scratches ... just have fun.
finally when you are done, you just have to apply some global glazes to unify each part :)

    007.jpg

    for the reds :
base is from Army Painter acrylics, called Vampire red. then i added sunny skin tone to create highlights.
all those lights were painted by texturing the fabrics : thin lines crossing each others ... long process but fun and relaxing :)

    can't wait for tomorrow :)

    thank you Ken,

here are the progress on Sunday :) I did worked the weapon ... with its size it's a big focal point of the fig. i had to carefully think of the palette to use as i wanted to avoid the bones to look the same as, let's say, : the horns.

basically i used more yellowish tones by adding a hint of sepia in the whites, looking for a kind of ivory tone.
regarding technics : they are the same as i described for painting the horns going from a very dark off white to bright one and using only the tip of the brush to create lines.
by doing this you are creating visual interest and textures.

regarding the pics : today was sunny sunday and at least i got good lights conditions for my cellphone camera. so you'll be able to see better the effects of painting :)

    009.jpg 010.jpg 011.jpg 012.jpg 013.jpg

PS : painting a Raul Garcia Latorre's sculpt is a REAL joy, everything goes way easier than you could think as all the volumes are so well defined ! even better than Joaquin Palacios sculpts.

    Hello friends,

here are the progress for saturday :) all the details are now done, metalics are in place.
for the metals i based them with black metal, followed by drybrush with trash metal. then i used brown ink to get the rusted shade.

today i will work on the groundwork :)
