EISERNES KREUZ NEW RELEASE: SS-Kavallerie Oberscharführer, 1941

Ready to assemble cast resin and metal kit
    Ultrarealistic figure.
    Scenic Base included
    Available in 2 scales:
This figure is closely inspired by the well-known Signal’s color photo of a group of SS cavalrymen
at the time of the battle of Bialystok-Minsk in the opening stage of Unternehmen Barbarossa; the
code name for the German invasion of the Soviet Union, which started in June 1941. At that
time there were just two SS Kavallerie regiments -amounting to a total of around 3,000 men- that
would eventually expand into the 8th SS Cavalry Division ‘Florian Geyer’.

This is a great release, but nearly 200€ with taxes for the 1/16 version seems to be way too much for lot of people..

... and also shipping on top of that.

It is a very nice looking figure. But you've got to really be into the subject and want one (and/or have a very handsome monthly hobby budget) to justify paying that sort of coin.

Exchange to Canadian dollars for the 1/35 figure is $115.

    And again, plus shipping.

When you think that you can pick up a 1/35 Alpine or Evolution foot figure (arguably the best resin figures in the market in that scale) for under GBP 15.oo (that's CA$25 in your neck of the woods), the price of this one does seem somewhat excessive, even allowing for the fact that it's a mounted.

The template - an original photo from the magazin "Signal"...:

Text: "Reiter der 8.SS-Kavallerie-Division Florian Geyer"

And as I hate to say:

The name of the figure is unfortunately wrong!

It is offered as "Obersturmführer", which was an officers rank and corresponded to a Oberleutnant (first lieutenant) of the Wehrmacht.

Such a "Obersturmführer" wore the following badges on his collar ...:

The figure, on the other hand, wears the badge of a "Oberscharführer" on the collar. That corresponds to a "Stabsunteroffizier" (NCO) of the Wehrmacht...:

I wasn’t interested in a figure with a horse, until I saw this. Then I saw the price, and I’m still not. I get it that a horse is a whole lot more resin, and work, than a person, I just need to invest that much into a single figure. Albeit a great one like this.

And, didn’t Dragon offer a 1/16 SS Cavalry figure with horse at one point?

It's definitely appeared in miniature before, I can't place it though....

    It's stunning but I don't think I'm up to painting a gee-gee

This is the definitive figure of a Waffen SS Cavalryman from the early war period that I can think of.
Some nice details are the horse that looks ‘right’ and the haircut and the DH watch on the wrist.
The combat cap stuffed into the front bag is a nice touch.
The Schmeisser looks to be on the small side, but few sculptors seem to get them right.
I like it and I may order one, my left-wing daughter will be shocked to see yet another Nazi in my collection ( Ha-Ha!)

While your notions and footage about the rank are correct I can`t see that Andrea is wrong:confused:

A nice Miniature that has never been released in that scale produced in this quality. Very tempting and the price is in line with Andrea`s mounted large scale Napoleonic releases in 90mm although I think that they would make more money by reducing the price tag. Nevertheless good to see that they carry on to expand this line.
    Cheers,
    Martin

A figurine that I would have liked to have in my collection, but the price is too high.In addition, with this price ANDREA will be tempted by counterfeiters, its range is already on sale by some on various ad sites (not just ebay).Pity.I will rather see with DRAGON, 60US$ including shipping, yes it's coming from China, but it's a real one !

A lovely figure but far too pricey, the Dragon is nice but showing its age a bit. I don't like the harness on this one as its too thick and I suspect modellers will create new harness from paper or lead foil. As you say, the cap is a nice touch though I don't like the 'grass base' it's quite crudely modelled for a figure at this price point.

So tempting...............part of me wishes he had his helmet on or the option to, even if it doesn't make sense.
Love the stance of the horse as well!
