    Hi everybody!
We are really excited and proud to present this collaboration project. This HUGE and incredibly detailed 1/12 bust of a Continental Standard Bearer will be available EXCLUSIVELY through the Sabot Miniatures website (www.sabotminiatures.com) during the first year. The bust will be ready to ship worldwide during next week but, as there are a limited amount of copies for the first batch, a pre-order will start tomorrow at 8:00 AM CT in the Sabot website.

The bust comes with two choices of headgear, tricorn and mitre cap, plus AN EXCLUSIVE BANDAGED BARE HEAD, ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE COPIES SOLD THROUGH SABOT MINIATURES. Just changing the color scheme, it allows portraying most of the Continental Infantry Regiments and even some Militia ones, not counting the possibilities if you make a bit of conversion job… Stay tuned and don’t miss your copy!

    Sculpture: Ramón Martínez
    Painting: Fernando Ruiz
    Alternative boxart: James Rice
    Material: Resin
Number of parts of the kit: 16
    Scale: 1/12

Superb, but 1/12 is not not 'huge'!

As I understand it, there are supposed to be 13 alternating stripes as well as stars..hard to see from the image, so, hope it’s not inscribed on the piece and left to the painter

Nice, 1/12 is one of my favorite scales, though I prefer it in full figures. Its good to see a larger scale ARW figure that looks the part and not just a European army figure re-used and redressed. There was a definite "look" about the continentals when compared to their European counterparts and I think this one captures it pretty well. No mustache! (y)

I won't say anything about the irony of this being posted on the 2nd day of USA's election debacle... oops, I just have

Looks like it's heavily inscribed with very visible seams.

As far as I can work out there are 13 stripes (the bottom, 13th, one is barely visible due to the way the bottom of the flag has been cut off) but it's less clear how many stars there are... though it seems more than 13 (15 would match with the later, 1795 15 states version- though that would need 15 stripes as well).

Wiki has a good page on this, including the fact that the precise order of red/blue stripes and the arrangement of the stars wasn't set by the 1777 Flag Resolution which simply stated that "... the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation"

    Early variants (1775-1818):

    Now, here's an interesting proposition.

Knowing little about flags of the AWI I did a bit of research regarding flags and came across regimental battle flags for the 1st and 2nd Rhode Island Regts as below:

    RI1.JPG

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Rhode_Island_Regiment
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2nd_Rhode_Island_Regiment

The mention of the 1st as 'The Black Regiment' intrigued me, so a bit more research enlightened me to the fact that the 1st recruited black slaves (and some freemen) on the promise of freedom upon demobilisation. Both they and the 2nd Regt are commemorated in reenactment groups... see here and here.... and also Capt Tew's Coy (2nd RI) here

So, my proposition is that a companion piece (or just a conversion) showing one of the 1st's black soldiers with either the national flag or the Regt flag would be great. (the 'hope anchor' would have the most resonance though it's not clear whether this was just the 2nd's flag).

Not a project for me, but perhaps someone may want to tackle it?

Some uniform refs. Note that the colour party is wearing red facings and what look like Tarletons and others the off-white hunting shirt/smocks with feathered LI style caps (and also the likely rag-bag appearance on real campaign) as well as the more formal continental uniform.

One of the worst hands I've ever seen on a bust, or is it that no one has noticed?

Yes, but I didn't want to be first to say anything. It does look somewhat odd.........dom
