Great job Neal, I see you have the sword the correct way around, I put mine the other way as I thought that’s what the painting showed even though it looks wrong.

Many thanks Steve. I had noticed you’d gone the other way with the sword blade.

Certainly is. Had a nightmare attaching it on my 150mm figure 4 glue points, lots of sweating and stuck fingers. Lol

Superb painting, I will use this as reference for my 1/10th full my Vive L’Empereur Col Burthe 4th Hussars kit. If you don't mind.
One question if I may, was burthe's horse a white, dappled ?, or was it a grey ?
    Many thanks

Hi Steve. Many thanks and look forward to seeing your version of the full kit in due course. Must admit to being tempted by that one myself. As for the horse colour I’m not sure of the exact colouring ie white or a grey but I referred to the painting as best I could allowing for a bit of interpretation. Somebody may be able to give a definitive answer re the colour of his horse but I’d just go with what you feel to be honest.

    Looking good so far (y)

Re horse colour: Neal's right in that the original painting isn't that clear (see here and here)... which allows room for interpretation :)

I suspect that technically it's a grey and I can't see any dappling (whites are quite rare and having pinkish eyes/muzzles- and the painting has distinct blackish lower legs rather than pure white all over) . This site shows how much greys can change over time from dark to white/grey.

BtW: there was previous discussion regarding whether the fancy plaited harness was silver or black: I think the balance of evidence is on black (I've also seen them black on uniform plates, inc Rousselot).

This is from Rousselot showing black plaits (albeit on a panther skin and gold straps)
