    54 mm Cav figs.jpg

    Hi all,
I am currently labeling some figs on my display shelves that I inherited along with my own figures in a quest to have one of each of the old companies, i.e. Almond, P.M., (both of which I have many) and then others such as Valiant, Squadron/Rueben, El Viejo Dragon (thanks Paul for that chariot), New Hope, etc.

Of these two 54mm figures, the one on the left appears to be dressed as Custer on that fateful day in 1876 and the other is a Buffalo Soldier in buffalo robe.

For as long as I've been in the hobby, I've no idea who made these. they look better than New Hope or some of the other earlier companies but that is the extent of my guess. Help please?

    Thanks

    Kevin

Yeah, I don't think they're from New Hope, nor Squadron/Rubin, nor Valiant. Though of those three makers, I'd say they're closer to the quality and style of New Hope, then maybe Valiant, then Squadron/Rubin third. But I don't think they're by any one of them.

I should ask first, though-are they white metal or are they resin? That can rule out a list of possible makers, either way.

    Prost!

I have painted both. I can't recall the name of the company, but I'm fairly sure that Rendall Patton sculpted them. 1990's.

So Close! I assume that is Custer? Supposedly he wore a hunting knife and two pistols on his final day. Any guesses? Thanks!

I remember Wolf as being resin. Unfortunately it gets me no closer to knowledge of these two figs. I remember Monarch Merite..first figs I painted.

Dear Kevin, I fear you might never get to to the bottom of this question. If PF members can't identify something, then you're in trouble!
If you ask me, what muddies the waters for you is that both figures look like being converted from originals. The Custer has arms that don't look quite right, Mr Buffalo's fur coat looks like it might have been grafted on by a modeller.
Of course I might be wrong as I only have the photos to go off. One thing for sure, is that they're both very old figures.

I wish you luck. If you do ever find out, please put us out of our misery...;)

Speaking of other colors, I would love to paint these two but the Ebay was $63 with a price tag of 13 still showing on the box. Thanks everyone for the help and more information on the history of our hobby.
