This is the FeR bust of the Officer of the Gordon Highlanders, circa Waterloo. This is beautifully sculpted by Eduardo Perez, and is very cleanly cast - a real joy to paint. AAF8E641-6C37-4A82-8701-F44649231417.jpeg CAE720CA-E687-4EDA-A36A-DD18976A3478.jpeg

Thanks for the kind words, Nap.

This is a beautiful bust with plenty of details to paint. I believe you would enjoy this one. The kit includes a lovely basket hilted sword, complete with a small photo etch sheet for the pieces of the hand guard that extend from the basket. This is a very clever way to depict those details. If they had been cast in resin, there would no doubt have been breakages and the need to replace them with wire.

I would highly recommend this kit.

Kurt, Great job on the Highlander bust! Love the facial features: eyes, jaw line, and checks! The guy looks like he has been out in the elements. And your attention to the detail on the feathers, eppaulettes and lacework is awesome! This fellow is coming together nicely!(y) Thanks for sharing your work. The late Bob Knee and Ron Wehrman would appreciate this one indeed:)

Thanks much, Neal, Cirsgt and Terry. That’s most appreciated.

Terry, I particularly appreciate the comment about Bob and Ron - two great guys and marvelous painters that we all miss. I would have enjoyed talking with them about it at the Atlanta Show.

More progress on the Gordon Highlander. The tartan is largely finished at this point, save a bit of cleanup. My references included a photo of a surviving sample of the Gordon’s tartan from the early 1800’s. The colors on this remnant are more muted to to the vegetable-based dyes that were used in that era, and the pattern is smaller than current Gordon tartan. I’ve attempted to capture both of those aspects in my painting, but might still dim the pattern a bit with a thin veil before I’m finished. Thanks for looking. 2560809D-73E9-4879-A733-673E2686F068.jpeg 49F37960-6680-4653-8580-A0F73C591121.jpeg AA8684CD-E071-494A-86A8-8513CFB021F9.jpeg
