It's always a privilege to see the creative approach of a master sculptor unfolding, so many thanks to Antonio for this thread. As ever, it is also good to see PF members giving their knowledge and advice to assist the work of the professionals. I raise my Glengarry to you all! Such a shame that this will not be a commercial piece.

    Hi friends...... :) :)

Thanks a lot for your comments!!!!!!

Nap, you're right, PF and their members help to achieve information on many obscure details on uniforms. I'm sure than the help of SVT about greatcoat has been very useful. I had not none info about back of this uniform item.... :(

    New progress......:)

Now, the sword with the hands and the scabbard. I'm sure with the position of the hands on the sword's grip, people guess the arms positions in the figure.
I sculpt swords using cooper wire and applying clay almost dry. The tassel is sculpted separately also on a fine cooper wire and then glued in it's place. The scabbard is a more easier item to sculpt and of course, always using a cooper wire like armature.

    The next step.... both arms.

Again, any suggestions or questions will be welcome.

    Greetings.... :) :)

This is similar to the 1826 model infantry officer's saber used during the Crimean War.
Note the curious cross-guard with a bow on the right side.

    total length - 930 mm
    blade length - 790 mm
    blade width - 33 mm
The sample existed for a rather long period of time, so the length of the blade and the shape of the hilt could slightly differ both in size and in decorative elements.

And you also need to slightly change the knitting of the sword knot on the hilt. In the infantry, they knotted it up as in this photo.

    Hi friends....:):):)
Again with more updates on this figure. Last updates because the Russian Officer for me is finished.

    I hope like.

Since the last update, arms and greatcoat sleeves have been sculpted. I've reduced the size of the helmet's spike and thanks to SVT changed the sword tassel.
The shoulder boards are not very visibles, but there are sculpted four stars at both, for a captain for 32th Jagger regiment prior to Alma battle. The number is visible at the brass plate.

A grateful subject to sculpt and I hope in a future to sculpt more Russian figures of this age.

Thanks to everybody for to follow this WIP and to SVT for his kind info.

Any suggestion for to improve or question will be welcome.

    REGARDS!!!!!!!!

Great job. Only it seems to me that you forgot the pockets on the officer's greatcoat.
In any case, this is one of the best miniatures that I have seen about the Russian army from a foreign author. )

Thanks so much for your kind comments!!!!

The pockets are sculpted, but the position of the arms hide partially both. Only a little is visible.
